What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Thanks man! I just got the hyper flash and figured I’d check on this post to see if I did something wrong!

 

No worries, its just because LED lights draw so little power that the truck thinks the bulb is low...so you get the hyper flash. An EP35 relay will fix it, I still need to install mine lol

New truck mask! Top filter was installed in 2015... Snorkel pre-filter does an amazing job at keeping larger debris out of the air box. Pretty much only deposits from smoke and smog Probably didn't even need to replace, but I got nothing better to do right now. Totally worth all the weird questions people ask

Also keeping occupied with cheap mini taco mods! I swapped out the worn out banged-up decals on my wheels and replaced them with navigation app arrows! ⛰️ I got hey small kick out of it. I'll never get lost again! Feel like you could play spin the wheel or wheel of Fortune now

Swapped out the double stacked and cut in half lugs nonsense on the back end. Luckily axle has 1/2" x 3" studs plenty of beef and thread. Swapped in one sold spacer with extended open ended lug nuts. Now using all available thread to hold the wheels on, about 10mm extra per lug, so an extra 60mm of contact per wheel! One less thing to worry about in the back of my head.

 

Would of loved to have grabbed those Limited side view mirrors.

You are going to need to swap the relay out as well if those are led

 

Swing out is back on and has farrrr less sag. Operates smoothly. Just missing about 30lbs of gas to be back to it’s full weight, but I don’t see that making a difference

 

Setup bearings? I do t see the point of that. You're talking about the difference of a few thousandth of an inch when doing that job. The bearings can vary by that much. It's the same reason for when you swap in an air locker you have to reset the gears.

I’m okay with a little sag but when I added the water. Which was 40ish lbs it didn’t make a difference. It’s night and day better than before

 

Finally got these done. At 210k and not knowing if the previous owner had them done it’s nice to have peace of mind.

 

I dropped my knuckles off today to get rebuilt. After destroying one and having to buy another set, I wasn't going to take a chance.

 

Bearings should not very by a few thousands, maybe tenths. I used my old bearings to set up mine, and they worked very well.

 

Tenths is worse...

Idk if you just have a bearing splitter it is easy enough to remove them. Doesn't seem worth it.

 

Just a follow up on what I started a couple of days ago. This mod costs $12 to do (the cost of the nalgene water bottle)

So I could put them on this bottle. Doesn't look like it'll fit does it? Barely does!



Made a little room to work.




Using a step drill, mounted the gaskets for the pump and sensor into the new bottle.







All snugged up.

Bearing splitter was a pain to use on my pinion, much easier and less chance of chipping a tooth or damaging a bearing with a slip fit set up bearing.
