5lugfury's v8 swap and sas

So haven't posted in a bit but I haven't stopped working on it. I got the tranny apart and replace the rear output shaft to match my current one in my truck. A340 transmission has a couple different types but they are interchangeable.


Left from right (a340f , a340e from sc400, a340e from a tundra/Tacoma)


I found I needed a 1/2" spacer for the belt to fit the pulley properly.


Got my new tranny cooler, I will be picking up a second cooler for my power steering. My old cooler is on the right.


I then got the wiring sorted out. One of the big difference between gen 1 and gen 2 1uz is the mad and the wiring that goes with it. I'm surprised my engine even ran because the maf wasn't really powered. I also started to button up the in cab wires using Deutsch connectors. Here's link to some knock off ones that work great.

I remember this truck from citrus way way back. Good progress! Stoked to see the swap finished.

 

Yeah its come a long way since my first citrus trip. I was supposed to this year but everything closed down.

Are you doing the 4x4 tail housing and putting in a Tase this go around or doing that later?

 

For now I'm just keeping with 2wd because I'm already doing a lot. This round I'm also plating my front half of the frame and adding shock hoops to fit some 8" kings I have in the front. I do have an output shaft and a tcase already but don't know if I would do that or use a devorced np205 so I can make both driveshafts the same lengths. Also got some major life stuff coming up so I need to get the truck to a good stopping point. I figured a rear locker, v8, and hydraulic winch should be good for a little while.

 

Even got a lift out it lol







Im now waiting for some metal to come in for the frame plating but I am working on making my upper control arms as Im going mid travel as well.

So I watched your youtube video explaining the differences in the output shafts, what are your problems going to be (if any) in keeping the same output shaft to use the stock drive shaft?

 

Are you talking about the differences between the sc400 and the Tacoma/tundra 2wd output shafts?

 

Yeah sorry if I wasn't clear earlier. I am curious how you are going about the transmission swap and what problems you are facing.

 

So I'm using the tranny that came with the engine (a340e) which is the same tranny that is in the truck currently (a340e). The only difference is how the line pressure is controlled and the output shaft. I'm going to use the tranny that came with the engine so I don't have to worry about the line pressure but I bought an output shaft and tail housing from a tundra that had an a340e and swapped the parts.

 

My not be pretty but they'll get the job done. The next goal is to install them and then cut my shock towers out to make room for hoops.

 

So close! Removing and reinstalling the hood was cake man, you might like that when time comes to install the new one

Yeah when it comes time I probably will pull it off it just rains so much here in South Florida lol I did also cut the front radiator support out so I can come in more level.

It does and it doesn't apparently there a lot of that black glue I already wanted to reinforce the middle so I was like time to cut it out for now

Well I'm a dummy dumb dumb. I assumed that if I stuck to the jig the arms would work. They do however I made the inside area too small for the proper shocks clearance I want.

As you can see the area by the uniball cup is much smaller. It's a slight setback but this is all a learning process. When I make the new set im going to tack and test fit. At least I will have my king shock installed by then so I can confirm that there is proper clearance.

I did test fit one arm and I do like the extra travel. My fenders are probably going to be modified. Down travel stays the however up travel is where the uniball helps alot. I measured 8.5" of travel at the hub without bumpstops or shocks. It will be less that that but I will try to retain as much as I can permitting my shock and fender clearance. The tire in the picture is a 33x12.5r15 and the other tires are on the ground.
