Ahhh...finally rid of the stock Dunlops

Got my new Hankook Dynapro's installed today. So much better all around. Went from the 245/75r16 Dunlops to the 265/75r16 Hankooks. What a difference. Not much difference in power. Was impressed. Attached are the before and after pics.

Your truck looks so much nicer with those tires on. I'm about to go into my third winter with the Dunlops, not looking forward to it, but I can't justify spending the money on tires before the stocks wear out a bit more. Unemployment has its downside!

The only way I was willing to get rid of the stock Dunlops before they wore out was if sold first. I stuck them up on CraigsList.org and within a few hours got someone who wanted them. Then I ordered the new tires. Sold the stock Dunlops for $300.00.

 

I have never seen a regular cab 2nd gen 4x4 Tacoma IRL !!

I'm considering a set of those for my Reg Cab 4x4 as well. Are they louder than the Dunlops on the highway?

 

It wasn't a noticeable difference in noise. The only thing I did notice is they do ride a little bit stiffer. I gotta say you definitely can tell the truck is gripping the road better. They are a great looking tire and look much more aggressive in person than online. I had the BFG Goodrich AT's on my '99 and these look just as aggressive and cost a lot less and weigh less (so the gas mileage drop isn't as much). I ended up getting them from DiscountTireDirect.com. Actually got them for $114.00 each including shipping (they show them as $131.00 each). So I would recommend calling them when you decide to do it. Can't wait to try them out offroad and in the NJ winters.

 

how many miles you get out of the stock dunlops

 

Look good! I was thinking about these but I can't find a clear answer in choosing the P or LT versions. From the price, I assume you got the 4-ply P version. Was price the only factor there? 10-ply LTs are about $35 more a tire it looks like.

Yea, I got the P version. From what I read on this board, it seemed like most people were going for the P version. My deciding factor was two-fold. One was the price per tire and the other was the weight. These tires weigh only 6 lbs more each than the stock Dunlops and are substantially bigger. I wanted to stick with a lighter tire so that I could try and retain some gas mileage and not lose much power.

 

I didn't realize they were so close to the Dunlops in weight. Seems like a great choice for guys like us with those heavy steelies!

 

I've still got the stock unlops on, they look good with 37,000 miles on them.

 

I'm curious to see what kinda mileage I get out of the tank. With the stock Dunlops I was averaging between 380 and 400 miles on a tank. With the new tires, I'm at 3/4 tank left and have about 105 miles on the trip meter. Will keep you posted.

That's where I made the mistake on my old truck. On my '99 I put BFG A/T's on it and they were much heavier than the stock Goodyear Wrangler GSA's. When the factory bought it back, I was averaging 16 mpgs.
