Being a machinist is hard on my brain, I constantly have to translate logical things to completely illogical nonsense for the sake of a customer's understanding.

 

It's a bellcurve, so watch your actions and never count on experience entirely or you risk becoming blind to new things

Lol. A machine shop is basically the matrix. Nothing is as it seems and is only what someone says it is based off of what they've been assured is what it is.

In simplest terms. A machine shop can only be as precise as their measuring capabilities.

 

I see a moonroof. Factory? A unicorn?

 

Somebody on here has one made out of white pvc tube that wraps under the fan shroud.

 

Should be factory. Limited dbl cabs had that as an option. I regret no buying one that had one..

Yes, I'm pretty sure that '01 was the first year they offered the moonroof as a stock option - one of our favorite features for sure. And the new owner was playing with it the moment he sat in the driver's seat.

 

I've considered putting in an aftermarket one. I had one added to my '84, and I did my own addition of one to a little Neon that my son had. It is a leap of faith to drill into a top and start cutting out a huge hole. It went perfect, and it never leaked.

 

What kind of machining do you do? I work in a machine shop, small job shop. We do a lot of prototype work, been here 25 years. It never gets old!

 

Or teaching English to someone who couldn't care less.

 

I work in a large job shop, we do a bit of everything. We have some of the largest tooling in the state so often times we get huge machinery parts that need repair. But plenty of small onesy twosy work too. Because all of us can setup, teardown, and run CNCs as well, we can do small batch work or prototyping of more complicated items pretty efficiently. We try not to take on any high quantity things though, were not really a production shop, that kind of work ties up a machine too long, and when you've only got 4 CNC three axis mills and 3 CNC lathes that happens fast. Sometimes I wish there were more small manual jobs to go around, but our two veterans get most of those. We have tons of knee mills and engine lathes, kinda ironic, but mostly a sign of the times changing.

 

I run a 3 axis CNC bed mill and do all of our welding. We have a 2 axis mill and also an old Bridgeport. The other guy out here in the shop runs the 2 CNC lathes we have. I ran a manual lathe for years but prefer the mill, I can set it and walk away and do personal jobs

If we get a job with 10 parts that's a large quantity for us
