I live in san diego and am looking to buy some sod for my back yard. Anyone know much about grass, specifically types of grass?

I am prepared for the "grass" jokes ;)

Don't know if they sell it on the west coast, but we had Zeon Zoysia sod installed a couple of years back and we love it!

It's got a fine blade, is fairly dense, is durable for pets, it grows at a slow to moderate rate, is drought resistant and is incredibly comfortable to walk on. It almost feels like walking on carpet. It's a type of grass they use on golf course fairways.

If you can't find Zeon Zoysia, look at other types of Zoysia. I don't know what may or may not grow in your area.

The only downside is it produces a lot of clippings seeing as it is so dense.

I was looking at what kind of grass the golf courses in my area use but couldn't find much information on the web. I might just go into one of the courses and ask.

    Yes, but also very expensive.

I prefer Kentucky Blue grass and that is what I personally have. However, it's a bitch to maintain, if you're going to maintain it yourself. There are also St. Augustine and Bermuda grass. Bermuda does very well in scorching heat.
