In 2017 ARB had discontinued their CS047R leaf packs and launched their Heavy Duty EL096R and Medium Duty EL095R leaf packs. Now they have updated those and the new part numbers are EL112R for the Heavy Duty and EL111R for the Medium Duty. In 2017 we wrote this review which went over those new leafs:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-ome-dakar-leaf-pack-review.489540/

We are here again doing the same thing with these new leafs. Here is what we have seen so far.

The leaf count has stayed the same and the lift height will be relatively the same maybe with a slight increase due to the liner thickness. Paint is the same as well.

The biggest things are the anti-squeak measures. Be it good or be it bad.

Since it is difficult to get the leafs manufactured straight they can come in contact in different places throughout the leafs. When metal touches metal it will squeak. The initial liner design on the EL095/EL096s was so thin that it still allowed the leafs to touch in various spots on the pack. With the EL111R/EL112Rs ARB increased the thickness to separate the leafs more to help with contact squeaking.

The second is the spring retaining clip design. These clips can get tweaked and can also be a spot for potential squeaking. When ARB came out with the EL095/EL096s they changed the design and made them wider and included a Teflon type pads on the inside of them where the leafs and clip can contact. The size of the clip also helped with them getting tweaked during shipping. With the new EL111R/EL112Rs ARB reverted back to the thinner clip with a plastic liner. The plastic liners have always troublesome as they are brittle and can break/fall off which then renders them useless.

The third change is the size of the anti-squeak pads. The EL095/EL096s had a smaller diameter pad. The EL111R/EL112Rs have a larger diameter pad. This part I don't really think it would matter one way or another too be honest. But I guess bigger is better right

Yep that is how it came. Most packs will experience this issue.

I find it amusing how little packaging comes with leaf springs, if any at all, and no one thinks much about it...but god forbid someone's skid plate arrives fully packaged with a scratch in the paint lol.

Hopefully these new Dakars finally address the squeak issue that's plagued them for years, it was one of the reasons I got rid of mine a few years back.

I totally understand but too be honest most people care. I get several emails, pm's, and phone calls a month regarding scratched leafs. This is why I included it in my review. It is just impractical to package these things. They eat through the box and since they aren't boxed to begin with it is moot.

While we are on the topic of amusing....

I find it funny people will wait 20 weeks for a bumper but won't wait a week for suspension. Not sure why fabricators aren't expected to have products they make on the shelf but suspension shops are required to have everything assembled and boxed and ready to ship within minutes of ordering :bananadead:

yeah I totally understand, it's a very awkwardly shaped and heavy item to package the same way you would most anything else. I've never cared much about dings and scratches on stuff like leafs and skids that are going to get dinged/scratched anyway, but not everyone thinks the same.

In my experience with @HeadStrong Off-Road , I have gone in expecting to wait for ADS stuff. Given a respectable timetable that never has turned me away.
But the kicker is I will get an email saying they've shipped way before I was told. Always recommend headstrong and ADS because of this.

In reality you can’t be mad for a $500 leaf pack That is pretty good quality for the money of course it’s not gonna be top notch like something double the price like Deavers. Looking forward to hearing all the reviews on people who try these out

Anything done to address the 2nd leaf contacting the shackle in our Tacomas?

I'm content with keeping my old ones clean & lubed to keep em quiet but taking a cutoff wheel to new leafs to avoid ruining my shackles still bothers me

These look like the Dobinson's leaf springs. Both being Aussie companies, I wonder if they're manufactured in the same place. The liners are thicker and wider like the Dobinsons and even the spring retaining clips are similar, even down to the 111 and 112 designators.

Yes they are being shipped from us. Not sure if shop is on new inventory now or not.

Honestly, I have seen squeaking with every leaf pack. I personally have had a couple different leaf packs and a few add-a-leafs and they all have squeaked. My factory leaf pack even squeaked. The thing is that the leafs are exposed to dirt and grime which gets in between the leafs. Not to mention whenever metal contacts metal it can be noisy.

I have also found that people who never really went off-road, take their new suspension out and go play with it. Therefore they experience squeaks that they never did before because they are getting it dirty. There are several threads on leaf springs squeaking and some tactics people have used to mitigate the noise. These Dakar leaf packs are really the only ones that I know of at least that try to help with squeaking by adding in the pads and liners but it isn't a cure-all.

No price increase at this time. Also still free shipping (like everything we sell) and no handling charges.

That I couldn't speak to. Leafs generally do not originate in Australia so they both may use the same production facility but :notsure:

I see. So either way I go I will experience some squeaking. Would you recommend these leafs vs the icon leaf pack? And while I’m on the topic do you know when the icon pack will be available to purchase again?

Just got mine yesterday! Thanks for the fast shipping!! If the plastic clip looks like the above picture does it need to be replaced or are they fine like that? Thanks! @HeadStrong Off-Road

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
Shame on ARB/OME. If you are even entertaining the idea of replacement leaf packs...buy a different brand. ARB is not the name you once knew.

I am in the process of installing an add a leaf to the Dakars and only had ONE isolator sent to me (ordered a pair because who only orders one AAL? looking at you @HeadStrong Off-Road){UPDATE: Headstrong NOT at fault. They didn't stock them at the time} AND because my leaf pack is older, the original isolators are thinner than the new ones. I am now in the process of fabricating my own. They are mild steel and any decent hardware store has sheet metal for less than $10 because you damn well know ARB will charge you an arm and a leg for just one! You will need 4x per HD pack and 3 for standard packs. They go between the long leafs, not the over load.

The new pads are GARBAGE and do not fit properly (too wide for some leafs) and SPIN/SLIP in the mounting hole...and the WORST part, they do not have have the grooves for grease and they are STUPID EXPENSIVE for what they are. But this is how ARB does business.... "Hey we changed our design and tough shit if you need the correct parts because we don't care." Talking to their customer support?? A DMV visit is less frustrating.

Livid is an understatement. I ordered everything through Headstrong and please continue to support the local vendors and direct all the venom back towards the manufacturers.

Wanna see how big of a piece of shit these leaf packs are?? This in DRY Southern California, no salt...after a little more than a year and NO ABUSE, they have been off road but talking fire roads and dirt lots... "off road". They haven't seen whoops, John Bull or Rubicon trails. You can see where they are rubbing and that's WITH the isolators/greased cushions. Bullshit, save yourself a headache instead of a few bucks by going with ARB. Cannot wait to ditch ARB and move onto better products.
