is your bike quiver *mostly* covered terms of different disciplines? If so, Whistler.

I'd lean towards the trip myself, regardless.

I'm starting to lean more this way. But having a spare wheelset, fork, drivetrain, and dropper laying around aren't making it any easier.

The quiver part is what's really started to hang me up once I worked past the impulse the last few days. My Sentinel covers the medium trail to enduro/park segment well, and my Stache covers XC-medium trail duty like a boss. I'd say the quiver is covered for my riding preferences.

But a British steel hardtail thats slack and rowdy has called my name since I first saw the one I'm looking at 2 years ago. The issue being it is nigh identical to my sentinel with the exception of a squishy back end.

Sell those extra parts, for extra cash, booze money in whistler, a nicer hotel room while you're there, etc, and remove that temptation.

you can always find a bike that serves a slightly different purpose and fits a particular niche better than what you have. but at some point, I think the money is better spent on experiences!

Good dilemma to have. Honestly, you can only ride one bike at a time. I'd spring for the trip of a lifetime over something collecting dust or thats going to make my other bikes collect dust. Full disclaimer; I only own one bike because.... kids. I heard the border was going to be shut down a little longer for what its worth. So I'm basically no help at all.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm gonna do the more I think about it.

@machspeed to answer our riddle from yesterday, Import Duty is 11% from the UK plus state sales tax (7.6% in SLC). Of course it's logged in the customs database so there's no dodging it either. If it gets labeled as "bike parts", its somewhere around 5%

I heard from 1Up and they said that I can easily fix this myself. There was no offer for replacement parts or anything which was a little disappointing. So I made a DIY project out of it.

To remove the big nut, you'll need a 27mm socket and a cheater bar. I used a rust removal liquid to get the surface rust off of the nut and washer. Then a pass or two with a wire brush and some 100 grit. Greased the bolt and torqued the nut down. Painted with some flat black rustoleum and it looks better than stock.

    Before and after.

Back in the day, my race bike was a Klein Attitutde in a Horizon Linear Fade. Yeah, I'm old.

Anyone have an opinion on the best tailgate pads bike carrier for a gen 3? I'm looking to get some improvement over laying the bike in the bed. What are the pros and cons? Does the front wheel scratch your bumper? seems like it would rub or bounce back and forth against the bumper as you drive. I have a 29er with a 140mm fork so it would hang pretty low. The Dakine looks decent option but I'm not completely sold.

Oh no worries. I really like their racks too but realized their bed mounted racks are not really ideal for my use. If i can find the cab mounted Frontrunner rack second hand for a deal, i would be going that route. I'll prolly end up selling my Frontrunner rack. I just like to tinker with my toys a lot, so it will prolly be different in less than a week.

Is that the KB Voodoo? I dig your set up. We have the same SSM long bed. I was leaning towards that rack but seen way too many of them end up rusting in certain areas. The over the bed rack is my preferred choice! Until i can find a used canopy. But long bed 3rd gens canopies are far and few in between.

Honestly they all do the same thing. I have the EVOC one and love it. Has molded frame spots across the top of the tailgate and straps to keep the bike in place. The only issue after a couple of years is one buckle doesn’t hold as well as it used to so the right side loosens up. No biggie. They all scratch your tailgate to some extent. My truck is already so scratched up I don’t care anymore. The wheel won’t even touch the bumper, at least mine doesn’t. I have a 29+ Full Stache with 130mm and no issues. Pros: toss in your bike and go. Ability to carry up to 5-6 bikes at once. Cons: pad itself will scratch your tailgate.

Yakima, you can use your backup camera. Pretty helpful for turning around on tight FS roads during shuttles

Do they all have the soft suede on the inside? My Yakima pad is super soft and i haven’t noticed any scratching yet. Not that I care, my truck gets wrecked at work. Just curious.

My raceface does, was on my truck for two full years, and nary a scratch. That was with driving around shuttle roads, roads in the middle of the desert, massive mud holes, etc.

I ordered a Fox one, I don't think it has suede or alcantara leather, or anything on it, but its not a concern for me. It's already got paint swirls all over it, don't think the pad will make it any worse.
