I highlighted the sections that are still Tacoma. And what is inside those sections is likely non Tacoma as well.

Maintaining compatibility for doors is important.

More important is keeping the part the VIN is attached to.

Driving this thing on the street in CA isn’t gonna work without an illegal smog, which guys can do when getting in touch with a shop willing to look the other way, but if it gets caught, it will never have a legal way for being registered after. The owner most likely is gonna trailer it everywhere anyway, but smart guys that want a street legal rig do what you’re saying. Quite a few pre-75 Chevy and Ford cabs get used and there’s a 90’s ranger that was a natural gas fleet vehicle which was smog exempt all drive on public roads legally. Good piece of mind since you don’t need to think about a smog ref pulling you over like they did to my neighbors 1J IS300. Never register-able ever. Got rid of it for half of what it would have been worth after and it was super low profile w/o fart can exhaust bringing attention. The nice thing about CA is the smog exemption for certain vehicles w/o any safety inspection requirements like some states.

Idk if my neighbor’s car is able to be registered anywhere in the country now that it’s been tagged in CA by a smog ref, but for sure guys that pay for a linked truck have properties or friends with properties in mod friendly states. You can open a LLC in some states and register it there if you don’t have property. The smart move imo is build off of a pre smog / smog exempt build just to keep things simple. Definitely loop holes as in anything for sure!

Im with you, especially since the truck is really just the shell of what it once was. Why someone would want the 4.0 v6 after all that work is done is beyond me. Or you motor swap it and you really just paid too much for a tacoma to start a race truck with.

Im also genuinely surprised no one goes for salvaged trucks. If you know you're going to back half the truck you can easily find any truck cheap with rear end damage.

Resale. Even at the level of money/work in to it that we are talking about, it scares buyers away.

I bought property in AZ for that reason exactly. $2000 for 3 acres and now I have 2 smog exempt vehicles (Taco and DSM) plus a little land in BFE!

Edit: Also Title and Reg was all done by mail, and half the cost for the older vehicles

Yeah it might be worth trying with a PO box but full disclaimer I have no idea if thats allowed or would work. I will just say that I titled my motorcycle in arizona very easily and avoided $1000 in backfees in california. I live part time in arizona though.

Holbrook, out on the east side of AZ. 3 lots next to each other, with addresses but nothing else on them.

I was just there yesterday lol. About 85miles east of me. Was just curious because that seemed fairly cheap even for AZ.

Well I knew i should have checked. TC 3.5 axle shafts are not the same length as camburg 3.5 axle shafts. Was robbing me of down travel. Not a perfect picture because I'm not going to pull them apart haha, but you can see fully compressed Camburg is shorter. So that means the TC ones are up for sale and completely built with 30k original miles on them.
