With stock springs? What setting on the shock? It's hard to get definitive info on TW on how the 5100s ride ...some people say they're too firm especially on higher clip settings and others say they're good. Seems like a reasonably cheap way to get a short lift

Exactly bro. Stock coils 4th setting 1.5” lift up front. IMO ride is fine. Stiffer but good , Also E rated tires. It’s a truck so for me it’s good. Not as floaty like off-road stock shocks.

I spent $360 on all four 5100’s. prices went up a little since I bought but here’s a link:

    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/store/p242/Bilstein_5100_Adjustable_Front_Struts_(Pair)_-_24-263108_for_2016__Toyota_Tacoma.html

Just the fronts are around $200, but you might as well do both.

Clip setting shouldn’t change the ride quality as 5100 fronts are longer than stock shocks. So unlike adding a spacer you aren’t pre loading the springs more when you change the perch height.

The ride difference is noticeably firmer, but I’d call it “well damped” not harsh. The truck doesn’t float and bounce over bumps, it just rides over it and moves on. The rear goes from a shuddering slamming the bump stops mess to actually staying planted.

Given the price and how little lift I want it seems almost a no brainier to try 5100s. I just gotta figure out what I want to do in the rear to get 1" and maintain factory rake (my preference, esp. Because I have a shell). But then again there are the 6112/5160s to consider.

Do equal lift front and rear and will be close to factory rake. That’s what I did.

clip 5, the top setting, stock springs. Got exactly a 2” lift.

With a cap you probably want a single AAL to carry the weight of the topper better.

If I had a cap, I’d install the rear suspension first then measure how much lift I got with the AAL, then set the front accordingly.

I went with a single AAL (Tusk racing 85250 On Amazon) but the Deaver single that @HeadStrong Off-Road sells is what I would have gone with if I lived in the lower 48. Prime shipping just saves me too much money.

    FYI,
Deaver aal from headstrong is advertised as 1.5-2 " lift.
    I'm currently sitting 1.8..

750-800 pounds of work deliveries has me back to a slightly under stock fender clearance, 22” from hub to fender. BD49A299-A0EE-43B7-958A-F56EDB20A4D2.jpg

so just a topper would probably put you at a 1” lift.

I also didn't want a high lift, aiming for 1-1.5" lift. I didn't go add a leaf as I dont usually have heavy loads, only tow a light aluminum boat.

Front - Fox extended travel coilovers, spc upper arms

Rear - fox reservior shocks, 1.25" block

Replace that shitty front diff needle bearing.

    This looks perfect!

How much lift did you end up with in the front? Why did you get the UCA's, alignment issues? 265's?

    Love it!

I honestly don't remember before and after lift measurements. If I had to guess front is about 1-1.25"" lift. I didn't want to preload the coils anymore. I was trying to find better pics on my phone, like a side shot, but can't find any.. Truck still retains a rake.

Upper arms are needed for extended travel coilovers. I also wanted adjustment to try heavy caster settings up front (around 4 degrees). Rides rough, but I love how it handles. Alignment issues..? Yeah.. It pulls, but I did a half ass alignment with an angle gauge on my shop floor lol

    Tires are dick cepek 255/85r16

Much appreciated. I didnt think the control arms would be needed with so little lift, even with the extra inch of travel. Thats good to know.

    Looks great!

I think extended travel are something like 3/4"-1" of extra droop? Factory upper arms would hit the coil over I would imagine.

Found a Pic before I added sliders and blacked out the wheels. Screenshot_20200618-204051.jpg

That looks perfect, love the height. Thank you

Would you consider the ride too rough? I assume it handles off road driving great?
