Let me guess... Your PC sits on your desk so you can look at it all the time? lol

Not bad. I pay $130 (after taxes and fees) for the Triple Play (TV, Internet, Phone). Internet is 300/20 ()

I remember those days. I think the first GPU I bought was the Matrox Millennium. I think mine had 2MB ram, was expandable to 8MB. Quake ran well on it.

Looks like b550 boards are showing up too. Is there any reason to go b550 instead of just going with x570?

    Yeah.
I can't remember what my first video card was, Trident I think. But it had 512k memory with an open slot for an additional caterpillar chip. Found one at an electronics place and upgraded to a whole 1MB!

Then came the battle between 3dfx, S3, and ATI. I had all of these at some point, probably most disappointed in the S3 performance and stability. Maybe even had a 3DLabs card at one point, and definitely a Matrox. But mostly I used the 3dfx Voodoo. Then in the battle between nVidia and ATI, I wanted to like nVidia, I just always had driver issues or quality issues -- they were either unstable, or died within a year. While ATI has always seemed to be chasing on the performance front, I've found their drivers and cards to be more stable and higher quality. I've never gone back. But, I did pick up a couple of refurbed 1080 cards that were retired from Bitcoin mining for my daughters who insisted on nVidia. They haven't complained.

B550 boards are slightly cheaper, that's about it. The X570 boards have a better link to the chipset which can help when building RAID arrays or using PCI-E devices in chipset connected slots. Other than that they are very similar to the average user.

They released B550 to provide a cheaper option than X570 boards while still having superior future compatibility with the new Ryzen 4000 series that's coming soon.

The A520 boards that are coming won't have PCI-E 4.0 or overclocking support. I would avoid them.

I hope one of your mining cards fails within the warranty period! I'm not knocking you lol, but one of the best things with mining cards is that they will occasionally fail while under warranty. I know a few people who have 2080s because their mining 1080 failed and they received a 2080 back under warranty.

Speaking of that. I bought a used 1080 ti right after mining craze. It died on me a month later. Sent it in for RMA and they sent me back another 1080 ti good for another 2 months and dead then they just said fuck it and sent me a 2080 ti. 1 year later still going strong. Not bad for a $400 used and abused 1080ti :D

Also I don't know if anyone noticed it but Intel made a massive dick move. On all non-K 10th gen chips, you can no longer overclock the memory. That means for everything non-K, you are stuck at 2933 mhz for you memory. Why they did this no one knows.

Linus gets into B550 versus X570 in this video. Basically if you want M.2 RAID arrays or more than a couple of high speed USBs then X570 is for you. Other than that, B550 takes the cake for the average buyer.

I still play BF4 with the gaming community I'm part of at the beginning of each month. They usually do the first weekend of every month.

    Yeah.
We've had them for a while and both have been solid, and I didn't pay a lot for them -- if they die, I'll just upgrade them I guess. But yeah, getting a 2080 replacement would have been cool.

I might still have a Trident and Number Nine S3 in my pile of old parts.

I've always had good luck with Nvidia. Ati cards were finicky for me. They'd seem to work fine with the drivers packaged with the card, then updated would cause issues.

What’s up guys. Never had a reason to stumble in here before. Could use some thoughts.

So I am building a custom setup for auto cad, revit, bim, etc. I’ll be doing architectural dwgs and modeling of buildings with it. I just Spec’d out this.
Under the price if you hit overview you’ll see the build specs. could use some opinions on the tower then I’ll hit you guys up on monitors. I’m thinking about 3 or 4 40” monitors, etc. it’s going to be a slick setup for sure.

    Thx in advance.

Just my opinion and @Sterdog (among others) is much more knowledgeable than I but I would make the M.2 Drive 1TB at a minimum, I believe that you may be bottlenecked by your HDD speed.
