Going to any motorsports event in person is always worth it. even for friends and family that don't like racing, the weekend is sometimes more fun than the actual race.

Ive been going to the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona for almost 30 years and every year is different than the rest. It's great that you can tailgate for an entire weekend while still watching the race for 24 hours. The fun never stops.

Our setup for the Rolex 24 weekend in turn 1. Shot taken from on top of our other RV/Observation deck.

Thanks. :) Its fun once its all setup, but the setup and breakdown takes a good amount of time. We get to the track at 6am so that we can be the first ones through inspections and into the infield, since we have to do all the maneuvering. It isnt so bad though... cars are on track for first practice at 8am. So our setup "music" is drowned out by the cars. (which I dont mind)

Damn that’s a cool setup! A lot better than our crappy tents.

I bet our drive to the race was more fun though. Last time I went to Le Mans was in a 1990 Audi RS6. Every year there’s a convoy of random exotics that drive Over from the UK.

Like you said, the weekend can be as fun as the race. We would sit at the campsite entrance with a crate of beer and watch all sorts of rare cars come through.

I miss seeing unusual cars, being in Kona HI, you only either see rental cars or Tacomas, that’s it :annoyed:

Don't hate on the tent setups. We started many many years ago in the "caveman" campgrounds (geico sponsorship) which is tent city. But tent city is on nascar turn 3&4 ,which is when the cars are in top gear, so it is an equally awesome track spot. We still have lots of friends there that come enjoy our corner and and we go enjoy their setups. We only got into the RV setup in the last 10-12 years.

I also go to 3 Events at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut and camp those with friends. That is all tents and popups. The events also cost a lot less than Rolex weekend though. LOL

A long time ago, I got spoiled getting to use an RV in the terrible rainy January weather and never went back lol. I rent one every year lol. The others are owned by the other slot owners, we just combine our slots into one awesome setup.

Sebring is more like a scheduled 24 hour party where a 12 hour race broke out.

I have said it before. It’s like a party at the landfill and a race broke out.

I'm trying to go to either the COTA race 2021 or whenever they do that Miami race as it's a lot closer to me. Gf was even trying to get me tickets for my birthday this year for the COTA race but glad we didn't haha

The first time I took my wife with me to Watkins Glen for the Grand Prix it rained. We had a pretty good tent though, so we donned our ponchos, set it up, and went off exploring the racetrack and grounds. The rain kept up the entire time. When we came back there was literally a river running through the tent, in the back and out the front. Everything inside was soaked completely through. We pulled up the stakes, picked up the corners, tossed everything into the back of the car, and left. It took us all night to dry ourselves out at a motel, and all the next week to dry out the tent and contents.

That was the only time one of our camping adventures went sour.

2 years ago at the Rolex 24 it rained almost the whole weekend. The race was red flagged for almost 10hrs and eventually got the checker flag with 45 min left of 24 hrs. First time ever it didn't complete the full 24 hrs.

Only good thing out of that weekend is that she said yes.:drunk: We went to Disney for the week after the race as a "newly engaged couple". They give you some awesome treatment for stuff like that lol.
