It took much longer to download, the toyota Techstream, and install it, and update to the 4B13 ecu patch than anything with VF tune. It is absolutely worth having.

Ok day two. I am very impressed with this tune. It feels exactly like I imagined the Tacoma should feel. If you are on the fence at all, just do it. You will not regret it.

I appreciate the well thought out and compact thread. I am on the fence, but only because I haven't bought the truck yet and still can't figure out in the Main threads if Auto Transmission is supported at this time.

Yes it is. As of yesterday the 2.0 set for AT was dropped.

So you just needed the 3 things mentioned in your first post? You make it sound quite simple and awesome and with AT released...I might have to do this.

Yes sir, that is all you need to buy. If you want to use Toyota Techstream you have to download it from Tonered's signature if you want to update your ECU before you download a tune. You may already have the newest ECU program and you won't need Techstream at all.
My truck had never been updated.

There is no cost other than time for Techstream if you follow instructions.

I already snagged the file from @tonered 's signature but haven't done anything with it yet. I did get one of the TSBs done but have no clue what my ID is.

Glad it seems like it went so easy for you. I've been thinking about this for a while and it all seems extremely complicated. I've flashed custom tunes for other vehicles before but it seems like the process was easier for those. So you basically have to update the ECU via techstream, purchase cable and tuning software, and then I'm guessing you also buy the tune pack and load those into the program and flash one of those tunes?

Edit. Not in that exact order

You have it exactly right. Really it is not hard at all. You just have to be careful and do it right, but anyone can do it. I had a absolute blast on the way to work and the way home today. I let my friend from work take it out at break and he loved it. It has smooth, easy power, plenty of tourqe, and it just feels right.

The tech stream part might be optional depending on your current ECU. If you have an OBD reader of some sort you might be able to read it before spending bigger bucks.

Good to know, thanks fellas. I need to get another scanner since the last one I had was a Diablo programmer that I sold to a friend after selling my old Chevy.

I do understand. It is $30 for the Carista adapter which gets you a month of free, full access that includes customizations and seeing the ECU ID. After that, the adapter can be used with any BT app like OBD Fusion, Torque, or others.

So, to be clear on the cost, are you invested about $800 for the tune? VF Tuner, tune pack, and open port.

I have a 2019 Tacoma and am experiencing many of the performance disappointments others have described. $800 seems like a lot for a tune. Do you have any regrets?

    Correct. $800ish.

it’s well worth it. 2.0 makes the truck run like it should have from the factory. If there’s something you want to tweak further (tip in, throttle response, shift points, charging voltage, etc) that can all be done with vf tuner
