It's just nice to see the damn thing on the truck after a year and a half of sitting on my living room floor, lol. I'm going to have to cut out my grille to fit around it though. Next step is getting the bumper back on. After that, I'll start doing the cosmetic stuff like the grille, and cutting out the green diamond plate panel to fit around the winch. And I have to weld some tabs to my hoop to mount my light bar on. I think it will actually work better up higher like that. I might mount some fog light pods on either side of the fairlead. We'll see how that goes. I still have a set of rock lights and my rear bumper to do as well.

Well not sure if anyone saw me on I-95 but I did a thing. Ive posted before about my 1984 Ive been slowly working on. I started looking for a donor truck to finally get it going and streetable. Enter the 1988 Toyota Pickup I found. Black SR5, 22RE, 4x4, Xtra Cab, complete interior, new AC, fresh engine rebuilt (270k), new 33" BFG ATs, relatively clean body (jury still out on if the bed is salvageable but the cab is in great shape), single owner, almost never went above 3rd gear. New plan is to rock this truck and SAS it once my dual cases are built. I have a fully built solid axle already under my 84, all the parts in a SAS kit are the same from my lift kit I just need to order new spring hangers and wheel spacers (86+ were 3" wider rear axles). Cant wait to get groceries in it and mall crawl with it. My '16 Tacoma fared alright towing it down from NC, wouldnt want to do it every weekend but will want something more capable once this truck is done so I can travel to different parks around the country. But I am super excited. Will try and post pics when I can. @Irongrave

Dibs on the 84 frame rear axle housing and the propane powered 22R. the 88 is going to be a really nice truck. I think your better half needs a v8 4 runner or better yet a land cruiser to haul this and that horse you call a dog.

    I once had an '83 HiLux 4WD.
    83 toy 01.jpg

When the 22R started burning more oil than gas, I stumbled on an '87 Hilux 4WD with a 22RE for the right price. Most importantly it had A/C. My '83 didn't even have a radio much less A/C.
    104-0442_IMG.jpg

The down side was it was an automatic and couldn't get out of it's own way with the go pedal pinned to the mat (Guy knows what I'm talking about, haha).

So I embarked upon and adventure known as the Toylet, as in: where you flush your money until it's gone.
    104-0444_IMG.jpg

Never did finish it. Traded it for a ragged out '88 Mustang GT. Looking back, I want to kick myself in the head multiple times for being an idiot. Rather than trying to put a Chevy 350 in it, what I should have done was taken the 22RE, dropped it in the '83 and then put the '87 cab on the '83 frame. Then I would have had a nice plush cab with A/C, and a straight axle 4WD with a manual transmission. The 22RE ran fine and didn't smoke or anything. The point being, fabbing cab mounts and welding them on, assuming it's not just a plug'n'play swap, has got to be a lot easier than cramming in a V8 or doing an SAS.

My suggestion would be to just swap the '88 cab to your '84 frame.

(I really wish I could kick myself in the head for that stupidity.)

Sweet ‘83 you had! A cab swap was my original plan (well...cab swap number 2...84 was rolled in 85 and sat ever since, got a $300 cab from a junkyard but interior is trashed and has rot) but I know I’m going to break so many little plastic clips and connectors it will never be the same. I’d rather leave all the engine electronics and such unmolested. All the spring hangers minus the rear axle shackle hangers can be welded in before the actual SAS. Then all I need to do is cut out the IFS stuff I don’t need, unbolt my 84 front axle from the hangers and bolt it into the 88, then weld in the shock hoops, same for the rear. It would be easier and cleaner approach I think honestly.

Thanks. I liked it, basic as it was, other than the mosquito-fogger 22R, it was a solid rust-free truck, but the no A/C thing was killing me with a 45 minute interstate drive to work every day. I really, really should have just swapped the cab and 22RE from the '87 on to it. I'd probably still have it.

I measured 8.5" of travel at the hub without shocks and bumpstops. I'm hoping to keep most of it but we'll see as I have to clear the shocks and attempt to keep fenders.

Damn I had a crazy day at the range today. I took the 6.5 CM out again to finish shooting the remaining loads with those crap primers. Shot 30 rounds of 140gr SMKs and 30 rounds of 120 gr SMKs. The rifle seems to really like the 140s, which is pretty much the best case scenario for my long range aspirations. These are some of the best groups (not that groups mean anything at this stage of the development process I'm using, but the rifle is showing it's potential).

The first two were shot with the 140s, the last with 120s...
    nUgxDjpOK6L5Un81LqYxqppr5nHNnZCElzp5Y2dr_b07333ceccf8f401c81eb548ba39e82c9945258a.jpg hjwooSBY4n6RIpTQcJctPg6k5txse59Eda05o1Hj_3e625b0c787c315d15501324df5594f8db843bda.jpg 8QafnSVN0iEf4NK55yWyKDyARuQn7nj3cK2JKRES_57a27a9fc948f360a53f066c46c88826d6a3f28a.jpg

The crazy part was that I was having malfunction after malfunction. My trigger locked up twice. The crappy primers kept blowing debris back into the firing pin hole causing soft strikes that failed to ignite the primer. I had to take pull the firing pin out of the bolt and clean it out twice, not to mention futz with my trigger adjustments to get it working. I've never in my life had so many problems that required taking the gun apart at the range before. It made it unbelievable that out of the 20 three shot groups I shot (each 3 a different powder charge), only 5 of them were over 1 MOA. Especially with how crappy it did with the 130s previously. It was just weird.

Surprisingly, the 140s, even though they were loaded moderate to hot didn't bother my shoulder at all. It feels like I was shooting the AR. No side effects what so ever.

There was also a guy 2 benches down shooting a .308 Win AR 10. I could definitely tell when he touched off a round. Then he put a silencer on it and it was like he was shooting a .22 LR...using the same ammo that was rattling my fillings out previously. I was impressed. I didn't think a .308 would be that quiet with just a silencer.

I wouldn't mind having one for my AR, but I'd rather irritate people with the muzzle brake on the 6.5 CM and spare my shoulder the punishment, haha.

It is kinda weird that they are so regulated. We're required to put mufflers on everything else that makes a lot of racket to meet noise ordinances. This seems like a no-brainer. It's not like anyone that would use them for nefarious reasons wouldn't have them anyway.

    Hi Lee.

99% chance that it's overgassed.... Too much gas ruins the primer pockets quick. I have used nail polish around the primer pocket (use toothpick) to get one more load out of some, but after nail polish I just let the brass fly into the grass.

I've had 6.5 and 308s that had overgas problem. With a can on my 308, the extractor would rip the rims off of brass because the bolt unlocked too fast. An adjustable gas block will fix it, however I found it easier to just buy a new barrel with smaller port.
