It’s a courtesy charge if they don’t have another buyer. If they have a buyer lined up, which they do, it’s just theft, at least on a moral, ethical level. I would never buy a SSO product seeing how they treat people.

    Holy fuck!

This is some of the most ridiculous shit I've ever heard..

    Stealing?

I bet they wouldn't want their bumper on an idiot's vehicle anyway.

This isn't a new practice. Airlines do the same exact thing. You never going to fly again?

They already justified that by saying they have to wait for someone to buy it in that exact configuration. You know for certain there's someone waiting for the exact same bumper the OP ordered? There are costs accrued in just the ordering of materials not to include the fact that they had already started producing the bumper itself. Cancellation fees are meant to cover these costs. I hope you don't go around saying people should support small businesses and at the same time, give this one a hard time for enforcing terms that cover their ass.

As said a few posts up, they have fees associated with the purchase wether it's completed or not. They have the cost of doing business. They have money sunk in to the sale that even if they sell that same product to the next person in line, they don't recover. Sure, wait times ballooned due to covid, consumers weren't the only ones impacted by it, the businesses were as well. I have an SSO bumper on order, I placed the order on March 16th, they were shut down on March 18th due to covid. I could bitch and moan about something that SSO had no control over, or just be a decent person and understand that it was out of their control. I DID see the warnings that said there would be a cancelation fee and I agreed to those terms. If I decided to cancel my order, I would 100% do so expecting to pay that cancelation fee and not expect to have special treatment because my order is taking longer than quoted. I've also received several updates from SSO throughout everything keeping me up to date, as well as the ability to go on their site and track my order progress through all the stages. The only way OP wasn't in the loop on his order is if he was not paying attention.

You should read the rest of the thread. Especially the part where the truth came out and the OP was banned from his own thread. This whole thread is a shit show based on misleading info from the OP.

When a company takes your money and gives you nothing in return it's theft, plain and simple.

False statement. They gave him 80% back just as it was defined in the terms he agreed to.

It’s actually funny we’re talking about this. Because I was thinking of cancelling my order with SSO about a week ago. Instead of complaining about the terms I agreed to, I offered a solution! Wow. Crazy.

Luckily there are alternatives for bumpers. I would explore those first. With the Covid nonsense, I’ve had a lot of things cancelled in my work life and personal life. Surprisingly, almost every business or service waived their fine-print cancellation charge. Most notably to me, Hilton Hotels, after I specifically chose the “no cancellations allowed” option to save a $100.

Some people are douches, and some are cool. I try to do business with cool people, who get it, which I guess includes the Hiltons. Go figure.

My experience with SSO. I was part of the group buy they had late Sept. 2019. It took months. Waiting that long will test your patience. I knew full well going in, this would take a long time to build. The group buy resulted in 91 bumper orders at one time. That type of volume causes delays. I love my bumper! Would not hesitate to order from them again.

It’s the internet. That’s what we do here. I’m also finding it quite difficult to reach 50 messages so I can post some stuff for sale that’s sitting in my garage.

Now we're comparing SSO to a $9+ billion/year hotel chain. Yeah, I'm sure their profit margins are similar.

not jumping to their defense just saying that there were uncontrollable events that happened and it cost them money as well as time.. and to order and then 4 months later decide to cancell becasue things change, sure, but there is a price that you as a customer are responsible for. you placed an order, materials were ordered, and or already cutout for your product... and from what I see they make each bumper 1 by 1... doestnt look like they keep much for stock on hand. each bumper shell is cut to order..

its a quality part, and yes in their policy there is a 20% stocking fee much like many other buisnesses out there... maybe a credit for another product would be acceptable? I dunno, its the buisnesses choice in what they will offer you. but $100-200 is a small price to pay... welcome to the world of small production....

I ordered from them in 2017 and the lead time far exceeded what was quoted....and there was no group buy and no COVID. Didn't bother me enough to make a thread about it but it sucked enough that I now deal with other vendors instead.

Without naming names I've done business with vendors who have notified me that the lead time has substantially increased and that I have the option of backing out and I've done business with vendors who have a cancellation fee but will tell you that (1) they may not change it if the can find another buyer or (2) may not change it if there is a long enough back order list and they feel they will have no issue selling it to someone else.

For anyone who doesn't like the 20% cancellation fee, do some searching....there are other vendors that make nice products that have less draconian and more nuanced cancellation policies...and more accurate manufacturing time estimates.
