What head unit are you running?

I'm in the market for a new head unit and am willing to spend some coin on it. Willing to pay in the $700 range. At first, I was looking at the 9" Pioneer

$1,100 DMH-WC6600NEX 9" Capacitive Touchscreen, Modular Chassis – Wireless & Wired Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, HD Radio, FLAC, Backup Camera, Hi-Volt RCA

DMH-WC6600NEX. But I'm pretty sure it's not going to fit (Fit naturally that is). So I'm looking at the 6.8" Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX. It has everything I'm looking for plus some. I eventually would like to get a front and rear camera attached to a button to put on any time and this head unit has the ability to show the cameras on its screen. It has wireless Android play which I'm stoked about. I've heard from reviews that Pioneers are loud AF and some quality sound. Doesn't surprise me. I've always been a fan of Pioneer in the past.

What are you guys running?

 

I hope you plan on replacing all the speakers and doing sound deadening so that $700 head unit will sound like a $700 head unit.

 

Oh yah, Though its a 10 year old system. I spent $600 on the Kenwood door and tweeter and then have a jl dub 3 12" sub on a 600 watt Kenwood amp. All speakers are good. My old head unit went out a few months ago and haven't had one in since. Its about that time. As though I would eventually like to Dynamat my truck. I never really needed it over my speakers when the sound is turned up.

 

I would take that $700 and distribute it between a head unit and at least speakers

As Daniel said above, there's no point in throwing all your money at the head unit when you still have 20 year old paper cone speakers.

besides the head unit. my system is well above par. Ive spent about $1400 on speakers and amp. Theyre 10 years old but they are all good to go. I just needed a new head unit as my old one decided to turn off for good R.I.P

 

I have a budget ass audio system haha. My truck came with a kenwood headunit from like 2014 that has been discontinued, but it works like a charm. I have jbl club 6250’s in my door I think and a 10inch kicker sub in the back behind my seat. Costed me like 130$ in total for the sub and speaker setup with the amp

 

I don’t like the double DIN in our trucks. Nearly impossible to see and kind of suck to fiddle around with.

Plus I like having my switches under a single DIN head unit. Lastly, a single DIN is less of an attraction to prying eyes.

And I’d spend $200 less on a head unit, still get a very nice one, but also buy Raammat (or dynamat) and Ensolite. Doesn’t matter if you turn up the stereo, you’re still getting muddy sound (in fact more if you turn it up) from the super resonant doors and rear wall.

 

Jensen VX7024 double din head unit. I still have my stock 21 year old speakers and am going to upgrade to new speakers soon. Yes, the location of the screen is in an awkward place to view if you’re looking at the backup camera and in navigation mode.

 

I've tried all the brands over the years & the one brand that has never failed me is Alpine.

With a kicker key amp and some polk components. Sounds good, needs more tuning and would benefit from a small sub.

My nissan has an old JVC head unit, mb quarts and an Alpine PDX-V9 with a 8" sub under the pass seat. It sounds *great*.


Count me in the no-double din camp. Too much bling for me.

 

I like the bling, mang! I’ve driven my truck with an OEM radio/cassette player with a cassette with a 3.5mm audio cable attached to my iPhone and a seperate GPS device mounted to my window for 20 years. It was too many cables & adaptors inside the truck and no Bluetooth either. . I love the new double din head unit that I have now. I’m planning on getting some new speakers and a powered sub soon.

 

Bluetooth is a game changer for sure. I miss it whenever I don't have it.

I spend all day at work looking at screen, its the last thing I'd want to pay extra for in my truck. Play music and stay out of the way is all I want.

 

I love buttons for our trucks since the stock location makes looking at the head unit very awkward.

I don't know if Sony still make a double din with buttons but I recall seeing one a few years back.

Alpine ilx f309, aka the Halo 9. It’s pretty slick. I need to find a way to move my shifter back about 1/2 inch so I can angle it up without any contact, for now it’s at 90°.
