$32,000

I posted a week or so ago about buying a 2011 TRD Sport DC LB for 32,000 and everyone said it was way too much to pay for that vehicle. I've been doing some research on edmunds.com and truecar.com and this seems reasonable compared to these two websites. Everyone is saying 29,000 out the door. I got another quote from a dealer and he is saying 29,930 invoice and 32,154 out the door. He also offered a 2011 Dc SB w/tow package for 29,850 out the door, not sure about the invoice price. What am I missing or doing wrong?

 

. if a guy says he paid price x for item y, he really paid about2-20% more than that for y-z (where z is a variable equal to a few options he thinks/says he has). In general a bunch of guys talking, paid less and got more than they actually did. Adding up half the prices quoted on this site puts toyota out of business. ur just too honest...

But it really comes down to.. if the dealer lets you walk out with good credit/cash and a number, he's not looking to sell the car for the price you want.
It doesn't matter if the invoice is 2 bucks... he can sell it for whatever he wants/needs to to get by. Shop around and/or bite the bullet. 1 thing you definitely are doing wrong is buying a 2011 in 2010. They don't have any interest built up on em. Find a 2010 and get it out for less than msrp.

regardless... at 32k who cares... its not like 25% more; and you can afford a 32k ride, you should be making well north of 100k per annum, fat occifer pay eh? SO.. tell those misers to chill. 2k? aint no thing but a chicken wing, my tv cost more than that. if you feel bad about maybe the dealer putting his nuts on your head... he didn't. He has to make a living too. Have a beer and relax when the mood strikes you.

 

yea... just built a modest dc 2011... base un-optioned msrp is over 30... they're full of it. maybe they live in a state with no tax... sumpin...

That's NOT out the door though, after tax and doc fees it's about $31,300.
Maybe the other guys are quoting truck price, not OTD?

 

call the dealer tell them you'll pay 250 over invoice if they say no call the next dealer and so on and so on sounds like the salesman knows you want that truck . I paid 500 over invoice for my 2010 in july only cause i made them flatbed it from the place they swapped it (I had to pay for the tow truck) Ask around and dont be afraid to use cars.com they give you a "smart target" price so when you call the dealer that advertises on the site you say why do you adver. on cars.com if you wont honor this price. P.S. Dont tell them you got a trade till after final price is discussed, incase you didn't know that already

Dealers don't care if your paying with cash. They'd rather see you paying interest on a loan. Heard this from several dealers.

 

Do you belong to a credit union? If so they may get you the best deal. I just paid $27,000 cash +tax and license for a 2011 dbl cab trd sport with the jbl and the towing package. While I was checking them out at various dealers I told them that I wanted to pay invoice for the truck. There are a lot of dealers around here, If someone said no, someone else would say yes. Cash has the benefit of not having to make some sort of financing deal. They either want to sell a truck today or they dont. I called dealers until I found the one who was motivated to sell.

 

I paid 6K under sticker for my 2010 DC SR5 4x4, but the key was that it's a 2010. My dealer didn't act like he would budge a bit on the 2011s on the lot.

If you like the deal, go for it. You're probably going to get screwed somewhere anyway (I overpaid on the extended warranty). I feel like if you and the salesman come out of it like you both had to give up something, it's probably a decent deal.

 

If you're a Costco member, I'd try it through them to see what you can get.

 

Wow $250 over invoice? I work in the car sales industry and we sold everything for only $250 over invoice the dealers here would be going out of business. A Tacoma TRD Sport Automatic MSRP in Canada is about $37,000, and about $40,000 with leather package. you guys are lucky

 

All I can tell you is that I have a Non TRD truck and paid $28k, that is including Tax title and license. Prices will vary greatly from state to state. Everyone on here told me I paid too much but for my location that was an average deal they were asking $32K. In all honesty if you can live with the price they are asking then go for it, try to draw them down as much as possible, but in the end make sure you get what you want or you may be purchasing another truck sooner than you want.

 

I signed up for USAA pricing and got quotes from a couple of local dealers for a 2010 4Runner Trail for my wife. All prices seemed high and I could buy the same vehicle from Carmax BRAND NEW for thousands less. When I went in to speak with a salesman, he actually admitted that I could haggle a lower price if I was NOT going through USAA.

So, go to the Carmax website, find your truck, print off the price then bring that in to haggle with the salesman. Tell him that you can fly to Carmax and take their price or he can deal with you here locally.

By the way, the best price for the Trail on Carmax was $38,000 and the best the local dealers would do was $40,000. One prick told me that they were not making 2011 Trails and tried to force a 'gently' used 2010 demo on me. Jerks.

 

And, you didn't specify if you wanted 4x4 or not? Without it, Carmax has one for $26,078

It all depends on where you live really and the strong market for the vehicle you want. I just paid 30.5k (before TT&L) and that is an excellent deal where I live for what I got (TRD sport 4x4, DC, SB, tow package, etc fully loaded). Thats NorCal on up the pacifulic northwest. They hold their value like a monster up this way and both the dealers and private party sellers know it. I see you live in Colorado Springs. There may be a different market for the Tacoma there. Ask around to those that are closest and local to you and base it off of that.

I paid 28k otd for 2010 D-Cab Trd Offroad 4x4 and that is with the extended warranty and GAP insurance....DAMN GOOD DEAL!

 

Consumerreports.org has a service that will show you dealer's invoice price, MSRP and suggest a price somewhere in the middle. It will then give you names of local participating dealers that will honor that price. As I posted in your earlier thread I was offered, by a dealer in NH, a brand new 2010 Tacoma DC SR5 TRD OFfroad for just under 28k. No BS here.

 

$32,000.00 is too high....just sayin....a lot of what your offered on the price depends on your credit. Low credit, higher price....high credit score the dealer knows you can go shop elsewhere. Its not a mystery. Go in with a check for the price of the truck in hand preapproved.
Than YOU do the dealing, not them. For what its worth....its always worked for me. There are thousands of trucks for sale.
