Removed my Firestone's and stock wheels. Michelin Defender LX's and Pro wheels went on. They have incredible traction and last forever. I have put Michelin's on every truck and SUV I have owned and have never been disappointed.

They were stock on mine. I also had them on a Cherokee before buying the Tacoma. I know for a fact that they are not a quiet tire. Was a noticeable difference when I put them on the Cherokee.

If you want something not super agressive, michelin makes amazing tires, just saying. Good luck in your search!

But you have a sport... you're expected to have street tires, There's no irony in your choice.

But for the Op, he should go for economy tires. If he can gain more MPG's, why not?

They do look a bit small for the wheel well, but... if they suit the purpose for which we are after, it doesn't really matter.

The downside for these is that the smallest rim size that I saw on the Michelin website is 17, and 2017 ORs came with 16" rims. It wouldn't make a lot of sense for me to spend several hundred gallons worth of cash on rims, in order to save a bit on MPG.

They must be great tires though. Solid reviews everywhere, and multiple recommendations here.

EDIT The M/S2 is only available in the 17, 18, & 20 inch rim size. The M/S (without the '2') has a much wider availability for different rim sizes.

X3 on the Michelin tires. I have an off road that doesn't see enough "off road" time to make it worth putting up with the harsh ride and noise of a true off road tire.

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.

If you're looking to save some $$$ then watch Craigslist for new/new-ish truck take-offs. I bought a set of the SR5 black alloys with the stock street tire for $650 bucks.. they had 50 miles on them tops. I have a 2" lift with the stock SR size tire and it does look the truck skips leg day at the gym.. but my rig is mostly an urban assault vehicle and occasionally beach rig and even less frequently an offroad rig in SW Virginia. I haven't had problem yet but do keep supplies ready to get stuck in the sand (maxtracks, come-a-long, shovel and tow strap.)

If you found a similar deal on stock wheels you could take off the tires and sell the wheels paying practically nothing for the tires.

I do 100 miles a day down the freeway. My driveway is 1/2 mile long gravel muddy road. I spend a good amount of time driving gravel logging roads, cutting firewood, etc.

How well do the Michelin tires do on the rocks? I'm worried about getting a flat with a bed full of wood diving a gravel logging road. Yet I need a tire that won't ware out in two years and tank my fuel milage.

We deliver and repair and pickup small 8-12,000 pound excavators and 7-12,000 pound skid steers all day everyday, and go to crazy out of the way job sites. These are the best tires we have found. Ltx MS2 Michelin

I owned a 2016 SR5 and now own a 2020 OR. The A/Ts on the OR do not make any more noise and are way better in snow compared to the A/Ss on the SR5. My gas mileage went from 22ish to 18ish, but I’m not sure I can blame all of it on the tires. The OR is a manual transmission and has no air dam.

That’s so wierd that you feel that the oem tires are too aggressive and noisy especially if you’re potentially going to construction sites.

If anything the oem’s are a highway tire that should never have been put on these trucks and have zero road noise. I was getting a solid 20mpg overall average with them.

I’ve had to use 4hi several times on a few dry hard packed driveways because they had no traction whatsoever and just spun. God forbid it was wet, probably would have needed 4Lo and the locker.
Truly pathetic tire choice for an “off-road” model. They should offer a tire choice when you’re buying.

Stock Goodyear’s are okay as long as you don’t live anywhere with snow.
Dumping mine tomorrow with only 10K on them because they almost killed me multiple times last winter.
Plus I got new wheels :)
My extremely worn out Michelin’s on my old truck had more winter traction then the Kevlar's do.
    IMO.

Really isn't such a thing IMHO. There are summer tires, winter tires and 3 season tires.

But the Mich's others have mentioned are reported to work well in modest snow.
