I know, they keep selling them but I've seen the FCC documents saying no you can't. Baofeng also has a IP67 waterproof version I might grab.

I'm adding a analog/digital DMR soon. I guess you can set up encrypted comms with it.

ya and I have about 8 of them because of all this

Here is the official notice from the FCC: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-18-980A1.pdf
And here is the citation issued to Baofeng: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-18-801A1.pdf
Lastly, here is an article that spells it out, in laymen’s terms: https://hackaday.com/2018/09/25/buy...cowls-at-unauthorized-frequency-transmitters/

The pre-ban baefengs will tune gmrs channels. They were never legal to use on those channels.
Mine will also tune the BNSF frequency but I've never heard anything on it. I will resist the temptation to say "hi" to engineers who must be bored because they don't have to steer.

you can still get them off Amazon for cheap. UV-5R is cheapest and you can go up from there.

Ya, someone mentioned a BNSF freq but my radio's won't accept it. But I can still do all FRS/GMRS and MURS with a detachable antenna.

Check out Mirkit edition Baofeng on Amazon. They get an extra watt of TX power. Not that you need more power rather than a good antenna. But you can tune down the TX power and crank it back up if needed.
