If you wanted to camp and do an epic ride from the campground, you can't go wrong with Redfish Lake. The trail around the lake will be the longest and most beautiful 14 miles you will ever do.

Other favorite trails are Fisher Creek (Stanley) and Greenhorn Gulch (Ketchum).

I would rock a 29'r if it was an XC bike. But not on my big bike. Since I'm so short, I sometimes buzz the rear tire on landings (no very confidence inspiring) when on a 29'r.

did a little kayaking on Redfish lake when I was there, and I can confirm that it is beautiful. Would love to have ridden around it.

I live in bend but I have yet to ride the other two. Pictures and videos look so awesome though and they’re on my list.

The Yakima Gatekeeper was made using the Tacoma as the template. I had one and loved it.

I tried a bunch of different hauling methods, none really worked out like I hoped. I decided that I like the 1UP the best due to being able to leave the front wheel on AND nothing touches the frame. Plus it’s super easy to load and unload.

Black rocks and bends trail system are pretty far from mt hood.

Besides post canyon you have the Sandy Ridge trail system which is my favorite place to ride. You also have the timberline to rhody 15 mile downhill which is fun to shuttle. Its not very challenging but stilll fun nonetheless. Typically thats not ready to ride until july. Timberline is also supposed to open a bike park this summer. Not sure what the status of that is given thr covid situation. If you keep heading west past portland you have stub stewards trail systme, but i havent been too impressed with it myself.

oh I thought you kept selling and buying the 1up rack... I was confused why you would keep buying something you kept wanting to get rid of. lol.

First time back in the saddle in five years. That's my 2006 Trek 6500 on the left and my friend's brand new Giant. It felt good to ride, but it was an eye opener that I am not as young as I once was. Hahaha...

I appreciate the responses, but I'm pretty set on trails around western Oregon (including Bend). I'm mostly looking for suggestions for western Idaho and eastern Oregon (if there's even anything out there).

Happy to talk Oregon bike trails though! I wasn't clear enough about this in the original post, but we lived in Corvallis for about 6 years and Oregon is really where I first fell in love with mountain biking. It's been a few years and I've progressed quite a bit riding in Utah, so I'm definitely looking forward to riding in my old stomping grounds again. We'll definitely be riding Sandy Ridge and Post Canyon while we're staying at Timberline, and maybe some of the stuff outside govy camp. Then we're heading down to Bend; I've heard there's been some good development around Phil's. After that, I think we're gonna swing by Crater Lake and Owyhee canyonlands on our way back. I'm debating getting over to black rocks, mckenzie river, and oakridge since that's where I did most of my riding, but I think we're gonna stay on the east side of the Cascades on this trip.

Here's the current itinerary (probably try to find dirt roads to link Stanley->McCall, McCall->Bakery City, and Crater Lake->Owyhee):

Looks good! I haven't ridden Oakridge yet, but it sounds like exactly what I'm into. Never thought of hitting Crater Lake on the way back, good idea.
