Ihi vf40 turbo and intercooler from a suburu, tial 38 bov, Perrin downpipe, lce 3rz equalized injectors, aero stealth fuel pump, Head studs, valve work, billet lower timing gear, lightened paradise flighwheel, truetrak posi are next on the list.
So i picked up a gem the other day, it's a 1996 tacoma, its using a Ihi vf40 turbo and intercooler from a suburu, tial 38 bov, Perrin downpipe, de-catted with some lame magnaflow chambered muffler.

Since i bought it I've added lce 3rz equalized injectors, aero stealth fuel pump, and replaced the brakes.

My intentions are to find a buildable 2rz and do a full paradise bottom end, stage 2 turbo head, custom front mount intercooler setup, big fuel and injection, possibly water meth for those special times . Along with 9" rear, 7mgte supra trans, triangulated 4 link plus 50 other small things to make it a well rounded street missle. :spending:

Figured I would start a thread to showcase the project and get feedback from the taco community. 20200319_191704.jpg 20200319_191746.jpg

Is that a water cooled intercooler above the fender? Or air to air?

I know monitors don't show great colors all the time, but that rocker cover looks like it's late 60's Pontiac engine blue.

That's a sign to me you should build a Pontiac overhead cam 6 from the era. :bananadance:

It's just air to air, surprisingly air temps are super low, should drop a bit more once my turbo blanket shows up.

I was thinking the same haha, I think its vht Pontiac blue. If it wasn't as clean as it is and I didnt care about hacking the firewall thatd be a unique way to go for sure haha

So had a issue, I was driving to work and the exhaust manifold cracked out, melted the oil drain line and almost went up in flames. All thanks to the stevie wonder welds the guy who built the manifold layed on here. haha. Probably the worst fabrication/welding job I've personally seen. No wonder it was heat wrapped.

Went ahead and dabbed up my own log style from some sch.40 304l stainless, much cleaner and overkill so no more issues. Plus it spools up a bit earlier :thumbsup:20200504_141549.jpg 20200504_141549.jpg 20200504_231914.jpg 20200513_182323.jpg 20200513_185819.jpg 20200513_215723.jpg 20200522_231621.jpg

I'd say itll work. I wonder what the market would be for a top mounted turbo kit for these trucks???
