I ended up changing my mount a little bit to a magnetic mount I 3D printed.

Been wanting to do this mod for a while and this is more what I've been leaning towards. Actually, I've been thinking about getting rid of the RAM part entirely and just have a fixed position metal bracket + magnet. Just need to find some time to work on this project.

Thanks for the link mate, that may very well solve some solutions for those that wanted it but I have to ask, does wireless charging work as fast as a connected wire does? With you having to run a wire there anyway would the wireless speed the process up for the user?

Is it just the magnetic part you're printing and selling or a full "bolt on" product with all components? Price?

Thanks, I think I'll pass though. I have a few magnet mounts already I could re-purpose.

was just about to order parts then realized my aftermarket head unit cable plugs into an iPhone for music, that would not stretch over to the left under the steering wheel. Uhoh.
(adapter cable, plugs into audio jack port at front of head unit, then goes into iPhone lightning port at bottom)

not sure how the mount compares to center console version, that places the phone closer near the head unit where cords can reach to play audio, as well as cig lighter socket to use as a charging port

I wound up making this my first mod...I had picked up an M6x50mm socket head cap, but found the 50mm to be just a bit too short. I headed over to Home Depot to grab a 55mm socket head cap, but they were out of stock when I got there, so instead I grabbed a pan head machine screw. The head is the same size as the M8 bolt that originally came with the Ram ball (this was a left over one from my ATV), so this fit perfectly. I also chose the 60mm length, and found it to be a better fit. The plan will be to mount my powered Garmin holder for my Montana. I did a test fit with both my shortest and regular length arms, and preferred the shorter arm.

I find it does. If it is capable of fast charging. Also keep in mind the usb/battery source capability. Some inverters, charger bricks, cables, usb ports...etc. might only be 1.5A output. I prefer the 2.4A as that keeps up with the charging and use.

Did the OPs method today. Very nice! Went with a 55mm screw. Little less catch than I would like. Loctite for confidence boost. Stoked to get a dusty ram arm off the shelf into use. On the the next mod...

While I had the mod in place, I never actually used it. I could never get the arms to set where I wanted the device, and I didn't want to spend the money on the swivel arm that RAM offers. I was also going to set it up for my phone, but found that the USB/3.5mm plate I mounted in the center didn't match the size of the three upper blanks. (I have a 6" USB-Lightning cable I was planning on using). So in looking for another place for my phone, I removed the useless rubber patch in the center console, and found that there was an M6 bolt there. I don't need my phone near my line of sight, since I upgraded to my CarPlay head unit, so this location works well. I'm using the shortest RAM arm I have, and it doesn't interfere with the shifter or the seat.

I took a piece of round aluminum stock and used a lathe to drill a hole in the center then turned the OD to the same size of the shoulder on the Ram mount. I went ahead and installed an Add-a-Fuse and USB outlet in the spare switch location. A 12” lightning cable and viola! This is probably the most useful mod I’ve done so far - so handy!
