I am going to paint my skid plate this weekend and can't decide which way to go with the colors. What do you think!

If you paint it black, it will not be as visible. I seen them painted and they kinda disappear. It's not really functional, just more for looks. I kept mine stock and put a red TRD decal from sockmonkey on it, but it just didn't stick. Plate is too porous. I even sprayed lots & lots clear coat over the decal hoping it would seal it in place. Looked really good, but only lasted 2-3 weeks before it started peeling off.

Maybe painting it will give you a smoother surface to work with for better adhesion. Let us know & post pics.

Not too worried about visiblity, but if I paint it black I will paint the TRD logo on also. Don't think I will go with the stick on decal. Kind of like the idea of the bed liner spray with the red logo painted on, considering that the factory TRD decals on the bed are red.

Hmmm, I'm curious how will you paint logo? I'd like to do this too, if you got any good ideas. What will you use? A TRD template?

Well, I went out and measured where I wanted it to go and it came out to about 6"x12". I got a TRD logo on the internet and blew it up to right around 6x12 and traced it off on two pieces of paper (cause it wouldn't fit on one) and I am thinking about cleaning the skid plate up and painting the area that the logo will be RED, then taping the TRD logo where I want it and painting the whole plate BLACK. Then after it drys, peel the tape off and the red logo should stand out! That is my theory, and hopfully it works, but I will let you all know!:)

I would do a gunmetal color. I painted my TRD skid black, and after put it back on for a week, I barley noticed that it was there becasue it blended in with the shadows that my bumper created. I ended up selling it because it was a waste.

My truck is an 06 and it has the skid plate. Did you buy yours new? If you didn't, maybe the other owner took it off or something.

You are correct. It becomes more confusing because there are some functional skid plates that are beneath the truck that are a part of some packages. Standard with the Off-Road I think. They are not visible without getting under the truck. People see that their truck is supposed to have a skid plate and they don't see this one and think they got ripped off. This skid plate is basically cosmetic and is not standard with any package. You can get it for a few hundred $ (I think) from your dealer.

FWIW - I negotiated getting one with my truck - just 'cause I think it looks cool.

Interesting. I've been seeing them on various trucks on here but just assumed it was an 09+ thing. Oh well, I'll proabably end up making one myself someday. I'm a sheetmetal worker so it would only make sense :)
