Missing Transmission cooler.

My TRD OR build date is 10/19 in Baja, and I have the trans cooler. Sorry this happened to you.

I hope you and all the others in this situation can find a good resolution.

 

4 lbs lighter is significant weight reduction. 16” alloys were like 27 lbs each, quality aftermarket dropped to 22 lbs each.

22 lb factory alloy is great.

Yea Joe, I understand that reasoning, and there is a part of me like you that would rather just leave well enough alone. The Ram I had, I went to dealer to have them do the flush and fill at their recommendation at 60k miles. What did I know? It was my first diesel and I wanted to ensure I would have it when I was ninety or beyond God willing. So to only use it once to tow and have it die all of the sudden one day was very disheartening. I did have that Nissan 10 years and some but that was barely 11k miles a year on it, and no racing, just driving. Not only did the tranny go up but the cats were degrading and the recycled exhaust was pulling the particulate back into the engine scoring the cylinder walls. That's some shit that if it didn't happen to me I wouldn't even believe it.

Yea, I rarely tow. I don't wheel hard. What I do know, is, if anyone needs all the possible protection they can have, it's me. I'm also the type of person that hates limits of any type. Basically because I am prone to do dumb shit more often than not too.

We are talking about unsprung weight there. Big difference losing 4 pounds on a wheel vs in the cab.

 

That was a number floating around that 1lb off of a wheel equates to 50lb in the vehicle? It was a long time ago and can't remember where I heard it.

It was hard for me to toss on the heavier AT tires, but the hit has been minimal for a better tire all around, even dry cornering.

 

What tires did you go with?

 

265/70R17 SL Wildpeaks.

They were stellar in the low land snow that we had this year and were a beast aired down in the melting snow on the Pass. Crawled through what my ride height could handle.

Awesome, thanks for the link. The Wildpeaks and Cooper Discovery AT3 are the two I've been considering. I've read a few things about the Wildpeaks occasionally being tough to balance, but there are relatively few complaints compared to the number of people running them. Did you get them from a local tire store, or order them online?

I have heard the balance thing also, but have no problems so far. I am coming up on 10k. I did a crossover rotation at 5k just to keep those on the even 10k odo intervals (my own sanity).

Alternately, I have heard at least one complaint about the current Coopers. Uneven and fast wear? At least on the 4S version.

I have been buying tires online for over 10yrs now and mounting my motorcycle tires at home. I have yet to have any issues. Tirerack has been great, but the install cost is just a quote and can vary. I bought the Wildpeaks from Amazon where the install cost is fixed and is automatically paid through Amazon after the installation. That is a small but nice difference.

 

So Amazon ships them to the installer? (Off topic is allowed on Friday, right?)

More like 2:1. It depends more on overall diameter and the tread to sidewall thickness ratio. Even then, the difference is not profound.

Somebody was responsible for selling a lot of LW wheels and tires wherever my original BS came from.

 

OP I would put in a nice aftermarket cooler. It’s going to be 10x better than the dinky factory one.

Sometimes I think I would prefer not to have the oil and tranny coolers. Less complexity and chance of a failure and coolant/oil/fluid mixing and fucking the truck up.

 

27 pages later and I don't know whether I should be happy or pissed that I have a ATF cooler.

 

I took mine off and put it back on 15 times already. It's currently on at this time.

 

I think that’s what I’m going to do.
