That is pretty crappy. I didn't know the extended warranty won't cover that. What DOES extended warranty cover then. That's why I didn't sign up for one because you never know what the dealerships are going to say and do in times like this. They were pushing it on me and I said I am paying a top dollar for the Toyota brand name that is know for reliability. Why would I need an extended warranty.

Another update.Ok now i am really pissed, the service manager texted if i was happy with the service. I said i was not impressed because there is a TSB on the issue and it is happening to most trucks, and warranty doesn't cover it. He replied back that it appears that someone pried on the light and broke it. I have never touched the light other than to wash it. After i got the truck back from dealer i decided to look at the light and all the seals are broken and no doubt it will leak. I am siliconing it for now until i figure out another angle. So i am guessing the factory install of these light are over torqued ,light broke from beginning at install or bolt holes misaligned causing to much tension and breaking the seal and light??? I sure don't decide to go pry on my truck lights when i am bored.

Well I siliconed it for now and water tested it. Seem to be waterproof for the time being. Awful expensive bathtubs we are buying, anyone figured out how to put jets in our bathtub's to make it more comfy?

Sorry to hear that. Mine was the gasket (which is the common problem). They estimated it be $662 plus taxes. I took a video real time of how bad it was and Toyota decided to split the cost 50/50

I've had new toyota's since the 70's. They always went out of their way to keep the customer happy till i had a simple leak on my 01 tundra windshield. Happened a year out of warranty. Called toyota about the issue...they said they were no longer giving the store away that it be a charge for parts and labor to fix it. I wasn't too happy with their response. Well, the leak was simple, stupid engineering. They had these cheap white plastic donut plugs going from the outside to inside of the firewall. They aged, and crumbled away allowing water to enter the inside of the dash every time it rained. Why they were there is the mystery...they served no purpose i could determine other than giving someone a job to make some money later. At any rate some rtv sealant and 30 minutes all was good for the next 15 years.

My 2018 started leaking from I’m assuming the third brake light a few weeks ago. After going through the car wash I noticed water on the inside of the rear window and in the rear storage compartments. Felt the headliner in the corners and it was soggy too. I’m over the mileage for the bumper to bumper warranty, so have to pay out of pocket for the repair. I purchased the OEM replacement online and was quoted over $1000 to install it by my local dealer Cabe Toyota. I thought that seemed high, so I called HB Toyota and got a quote for $300. Gonna go that route. I guess calling around is a good idea.

After a hard rain this weekend, my 2016 was soaked, the entire back seat, floor and everything in my back seat that could wick the water up. Quick search brought me here. I bought the truck new in 2016 and just hit 39K miles...so I'm out of warranty. We did buy a new house this Summer and my spot in the driveweay is opposite of the slope at my old house. Old house rear was high, new house rear is low. I'm sure this makes a big difference when water accumulates and drains across the roof onto the rear light vs. smaller amount gathering at the other angle.

I'm bringing it into the dealer today, I'll update with my progress for those more recent than some of the older posts.

Dropped off the truck. Service advisor said they’ll have to troubleshoot to verify but that he’s “seen quite a few of those”. I’ll update when I hear back.
Also on the phone with Toyota to try and get ahead of the situation for a warranty exception since I’m out of warranty. I got a case # and I’m schedule for a call back Tuesday from a manager due to being out of Warranty.

    ***Update***

Was diagnosed as leaking 3rd breaklight. Was quoted $805, not covered by warranty. Service advisor was understanding and helpful, he told me to get with Toyota and he's seen them be approved for repair after Warranty was expired. Should get a call from Toyota Thursday.

I ended up with a 8 yr. / 125K platinum warranty as this was issues #12 for me. Mine was soaked inside and if it wasn't covered I was just going with the RTV sealant to resolve it. They found the screws that held the light in place were bent up from the installation so there was no doubt this happened at the factory.

talked to customer care rep. They said they’ll contact the dealer and go through their review process but that I should know that, most likely, Toyota will only pay for the part, no labor and no exploration for any water damage. I told her my expectations were complete replacement covered and testing for mold/mildew since this has probably been happening on some scale since I bought the truck.

I contacted Toyota customer service when I was having the issues with my 2018, they wouldn’t cover anything. I bought the part myself and ended up paying $600 out of pocket for the labor costs. They initially quoted me $300, when they saw I had a camper shell they told me an extra $300 because they would have to remove it to get the light out. I basically got fucked, but it doesn’t leak anymore. Definitely call around dealerships for the estimate. Like I said on my previous post, one dealer quoted like $1100, the other $300.

Mine was replaced with 81570-04051. I’m pretty sure the Pro is the same as TRD sport and off road.

Does anyone have a close up photo of it after it is fixed to know what it should look like when properly sealed/seated?

Well if that happens my dealer told me i must have got up into the back of the truck and pryed on the light and that is why it leaked. aka they pryed on it,after getting it back it was lifted off the metal.Should have taken a pic of before it went in to dealer. So they will tell Toyota customer error and be done with it.
