So I got a set of at3 4s tires. I had a local independent shop install and balance. Today I've noticed I've got wheel vibration at 60-65mph. The shop is closed today but I'll call tomorrow. Is it common for a tire shop to have to rebalance a tire? I've never had this issue before.

Positive note - the tires look fantastic and are super grippy!

I've had to have several tires rebalanced over the years, but these were not among them. I've got over 50k on mine right now, they still have a good amount of tread and while they aren't AS whisper quiet as they were the first 30-40k they still are pretty quiet for a tire w/ 50k on them. I'm still amazed they are wearing as well as they are

Now that it’s been a little while, how would you compare these Coopers to the Falkens?

Nice truck btw, love the green

Yeah I went back to the shop and they rebalanced the front tires. Super smooth now.

Thanks a lot, I didn’t have the Falken AT3w before, I had the Cooper ATW, a since discontinued winter minded version of their AT3. I understand they are a very similar tire though.

Anyways it’s hard to really say, I’ve driven both in some similar situations but they’ve kind of lived different lives. My gut says I liked the ATW’s better unfortunately. I feel like the 4S aren’t wearing as well and also didn’t hook up as well as the ATW did but like I said, they’ve lived different lives so it’s not a fair comparison. The ATWs saw a lot of highway miles pulling a trailer, with the occasional off-roading in western mountains and winters in northeast Ohio. These 4S’s have stayed closer to home, saw more mud and farm work and also Ohio winters.

I would buy the 4S again to give them another go, and I am in the market before next winter, I have 45k on these and they’re definitely on their way out, which isn’t encouraging. I’ll also be considering the Falkens this time around and also the Cooper STT Max if I’m feeling like changing the game a bit.

Sorry about that, must have read it too quick. Thought you had the Falkens. Good review of the 4S either way.

I've got the ST Maxx myself up here in MN....wouldn't particularly recommend in the winter if you're doing a lot of driving. I run a dedicated winter set that grips much better in the slush and ice. Reason I was asking about the Falkens vs 4S was for my other vehicle - it's only gonna have one tire all year.

I have been using Discoverer AT3 265/70/17 for the past 3 years so they have been exposed to the winter of 2018-19 and 2019-20 so far, Weekend off roading (15%) and pavement driving (85%) at a total of 30,000 miles (50,000 km) and they have been solid on my 2016 TRD Sport Long box. The latest service (2,000 km ago) when they rotated them i've got a score of 10/32 or 11/32 of tread across the board. I am upsizing to 285/70/17 this summer and 4S is my top choice. The bonus is a retailer here in Vancouver having a 25% off (more than $70CAD on each tire) for Father's day which is a fantastic deal. Looking forward to it. :D

I just switched to these tires from the BFG KO2's. HUGE improvement in ride quality and noise and I can confirm they are an awesome all-around tire for the commuter and light off-roader. My driving is mostly highway, town, lots of snow and ice in the winter and the occasional 4wd road.

Very smooth ride and feel, excellent handling even at 80 mph+, 2 mpg (!) increase from the KO2's, and 3PMSF rated. Plus, 65,000 warranty which is better than most AT tires.

I always get my tires done at Discount and cant speak highly enough about them. They took my KO2's back after almost 700 miles!! No fees or questions asked.

I paid $160 per tire for these, and with Discount's replacement certificates it came out to about $750 out the door.

Congrats on the new tires. Their warranty seems to be pretty low risk to them based on what I'm seeing. I'm at about 54k now and while I haven't taken measurements in awhile, there's still plenty of tread left. And what I'm loving even more is that their handling hasn't suffered a BIT as they've worn. I can still take curves in the mountains with a bit of speed with full confidence. Enjoy the new shoes!

I've got 9,800 mi on my Coopers AT3 4s and the tread depth on all 4 tires is uniformly 10/32. I neglected to measure the tread depth when I first put them on but the specs indicate 14/32. Tire size is 265 r70 16, STD load range. I rotated them every 5k mi and drive rather conservatively, no fast corners. The rate I'm going I'll only get one more winter's use out of them until the depth drops below 6/32. bshammer mentioned that his wore to 10/32, then stayed at that depth to 40K miles. Anyone else find that the Coopers wear to a certain point and then the wear rate slows considerably?

Thanks OP for review. replacing two AT3 with these.

My old AT3 at about half tread life still gripped the road good. A little hard to balance right.

    Hope these are improvements.

I've had the AT3 4s' on my Taco since January of 2019 and I've put around 15-16k on them. I had the previous AT3s on my 2008 Ram 1500 and I put about 60k on those prior to trading the truck in (for said Taco). The only notable issue with the tires on either vehicle thus far is having some difficulty balancing. The tread wear has been even provided they're rotated fairly regularly and no complaints with road noise (my daily commute is mostly highway at speed). I've been down some trails and on the sandy beach and they performed just fine. Wet roadway performance has also been a plus to include when you hit an unexpected area of standing water in the roadway.

I had these on my last truck and plan to get them before winter on the Tacoma. They're not snow tires, but they're excellent in my experience, perhaps even the next best thing. Although I did get a nail in my Goodyears and they're still holding air without a plug. But, the AT3 4S comes with more tread and bigger channels for water/snow to go.

My only debate is whether or not to have the raised white lettering out or not. I always have run them with the lettering visible, but my last truck was orange and this is all black.

I actually saw a winter comparison, although definitely not scientific, between these and the K02's and they found the same thing. Far more grip in the AT3's.

As far as tread goes not much difference in pattern. I hoped they improved on the rubber

    New in front

    Originals in rear

You may need to look at your suspension and/or alignment. That's what happened on my last truck.

Just after 50k or so my tires did start to exhibit a fair amount of road noise. Not MT loud but sometimes sounds almost wheel-bearing-ish. With COVID I haven't put as many miles on them in recent months, but at 55k now I am replacing (tomorrow). There's still quite a bit of tread left on them and they still stick well in rain, mud, etc., and handle almost as well as new. But my wife started to complain about the tire noise on longer road trips. I debated several different tire options, but in the end, I got 2 full years of heavy use out of these tires and they remained whisper quiet until they hit the 50k mark and never seem to lose traction on the road in any condition and have gotten me through several trails/farms without ever getting stuck. For $150 tires that's good enough for me, so I'm replacing them with the same 4Ss tomorrow.
