You have your choice between factory bushing or uniballs with seals. Grease need not be involved

Whats the biggest advantage of this? I know the OE tie rods can be a weak point. Is this mainly to strengthen the outer tie rod or the connection point?

    Thanks in advance :hattip:

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
it's one of the first things to break or bend. factory is fine for gravel roads, not off-road. same for the spindles. they have to tendency to fail too. if you would like more information there's tons of threads here covering all things internal front suspension.

Spindles bend, even from fairly minor hits, and the OE rack/tierod set up is appropriate for a T100 sized mini-truck, not the half-ton behemoth the 2nd gen taco tries to be. The double shear steering, combined with an upgraded rack, removes a major point of failure for people who seriously wheel their trucks.

There's a bunch of options for the main spindle gusset, this is the first production option I know of for the double shear steering.

With an adapter to set up the inner tie rod as a heim joint, yes. HOWEVER, that will make your rack (the most expensive and pain in the ass part of the steering) the weak point. You really want to upgrade the rack before you make the tie rods stronger, replacing a bent tierod is an easy trail fix, and you should carry at least 2 sets. Replacing the rack is a miserable day.

    I see! So upgrade both.
Well, I’ll add it to the list of future mods

@81Trekker this is awesome!! I like where you've gone with this. Simple and way outside the box for what's on the market. Got a couple questions regarding the front setup. I've combed this thread a few times now and didn't see the answers (maybe I missed them).

Why have the adjustable spacers in the LCA mount? Not understanding the adjustability part. For aftermarket UCAs?

Whats different about your stock length UCAs? Is the uniball in the same location as factory? Same location, different angle? What uniball is that?

Are you running 934s on your truck with the stock length arms? How much travel are you getting on your truck?

Excited to see where your builds go. Especially the rear kit you've hinted at.

62” spring under deavers mounted with a shackle flip that swings off a d44 spindle snouts and 18” 3.0 4tube bypass. Might notch the frame too if the springs will allow

oh and the smog legal fuel cell/cradle.

81Trekker, the new cradle/LCA mounts check a lot of boxes for me (current 35's, moving to 37's)...love what you've done here. Also interested in steering and cv's. How soon will a new group buy be opened?
