How does one remove that shaft with gear? I am trying to swap to a manual shaft tube. Do I have to crack the whole case open? If so anything to watch out for? Never done one of these. Will be looking at the FSM also, but could use some input:

Thanks for any insight folks :)

It should just pop out. Kind of like the CV axle should pop out of the front diff.

That being said, it's a royal pain in the ass.

Yeah I checked it out after @MattJakobs clued me in that it just pops like a CV.

Funny you should bring up Timmy lol, couple of pry bars and some "man strength" and she is outta there!

@Madjik_Man per your request good sir :) - It's a solid PITA, but i'd wager it is worse for some than others.

After your swap, I should fly you in to CO and do mine

Your attention to detail aligns with mine. Only I don’t think I can do this swap myself.

Hey guys, I’m having a new kinda odd problem.

At the very end of the ignition cycle just as the engine fires up I’m hearing a weird grinding sound. Not while cranking and not when it’s running, just immediately as the motor fires up. Ideas?

I suppose that could be it. Is there a fix or just replace the starter??

I'd hit the starter, at the business end, with a hammer. Not too hard, but more than a few times. If it gets better then we have a good theory and replacing it would be the best option.

My attention to detail on my truck is crap, on other stuff, I'm a machinist and used to do custom architectural fabrication, so I've got a bit of detail. If he doesn't take you up on the offer, I will. All I need is copious amounts of beer, at least 12 per day for working hours and another 8 for after work hours. I'll stay in a tent and provide my own food, as long as game is available.

But seriously you can do it yourself, it helps to have a second pair of hands for pulling the wiring on the auto and pulling installing the trans. There's a few of us active on here who have done it and are more than willing to give advice.
