I bought a 10 yr/100k mile extended toyota warranty when i bought the truck. My understanding is that if I sell the truck private party, the warranty passes to next owner.

Is that warranty going to significantly increase my resale value?

    $0 for resale
Unless when selling still under warranty
Even then still won't get much more

100k comes quick. Unless truck is not used.

You can sell it back to Toyota or offer it to the new buyer for what Toyota would give you. In fact I bought my Tacoma from a dealer. Found the previous owner and contacted him actually before I bought it. He transferred the warranty to me through Toyota.

0$ but it can help persuade someone to buy the truck if they are on the fence.

There's a house down the street that has been for sale for 2 years. A year ago, a sign was added to the house that says "Home warranty included"... it's still for sale.

0$ - The only way if might help is if a potential buyer is trying to decide between two vehicles for purchase that they like equal the extended warranty may be the deciding factor for which to purchase.

This doesnt make sense to me

Say i sell the car with 3 years and 30k miles left on the extended warranty, which is transferrable to the next owner.

All else equal, wouldn't a buyer want to go for a truck that still has warranty coverage, and pay more for it, than buy the truck that is completely out of warranty?

A used car buyer can't otherwise buy a comporable toyota warranty on a used car unless the original owner bought it, like I did.

    I certainly would.

Minimal to zero $$. In fact it would make no difference to me at all if I was looking at your vehicle to purchase.

Nada.. Honestly you’d be better off getting reimbursed for whatever prorate is left which you can also do for gap insurance.

Like I just said, Yes, all else equal, they will most likely go for the truck with the warranty but aren't going to pay more for it.
The thing about Tacoma is that they have such a reputation for being trouble-free vehicles that last forever that most don't value an extended warranty.

So you're saying that if you are buying a used car from somebody on craigslist that having 3 years/30k miles left on a toyota warranty is worth zero dollars to you??

That makes no sense to me. Regardless of tacomas reliability, buying used is always a crapshoot. The warranty gives peace of mind.

I'd pay extra for the peace of mind but I don't always make the best financial decisions.

Yes that is correct. It would influence my decision very little and I would not pay a premium for it.

If it was the same price then I would buy the one with the extended warranty. If it’s thousands more I’d just keep the cash I’m my pocket and buy the cheaper truck.

if it is bumper to bumper factory warranty with no deductible, yes it would add some to the value.

Having a transferable Toyota warranty would certainly make me consider your truck over other, comparably priced, trucks, but I wouldn't pay much more for it. We're certainly talking hundreds rather than thousands and not too many of those.

It's up to you, though. Look at what similar trucks are being listed for and list yours for the price you think is fair. Just be ready for a whole lot of nonsense selling on Craigslist. I'd almost rather take an insulting offer from a dealership than ever deal with selling a car on Craigslist again (I've done it three times and it sucked every time).

Dude, warranties aren’t that expensive. If you bought a vehicle with a 10yr/100k mile warranty, & you sell it with 3yr/30k miles left on the warranty, you can ask maybe $300 more because you have that warranty. GLWS.

Edit: Technically, you can always talk some moron in to buying it for $3k more because of the warranty. Regardless, GLWS.

Asked the same question about this extended 75-100k warranty from toyota...they only went on to say the simonize glass coat treatment i took will make your resale much higher when the times comes. They said nothing about transferable of either when i asked so i assumed it wasn't.

Just from my experience owning toyota 4wd pickups and a tundra for nearly 20 years and almost 300k miles i didn't go for it. Salesman there seemed kinda pissed saying your lucky. He then stated the converter in his rave4 took a dump in his motel parking lot at 40k miles...was grateful he had the extended 10 year 100k mile warranty. I just ignored him.
