Cooper STT

i have been looking into these tires alot. i haved searched the forums and googled but cant find what kind of tread life these have and what type of mileage ive heard some getting 40xxx plus or lower. i love the tread desgin and want these on my rig. im mainly on the road about 75% and 25% off road. i want a tire that looks pretty aggressive but still lats awhile. let me know what yall think of this tire or any other tire suggestions. thanks adam

 

Strange, as I have written a lot about them...???



I had them on my 2005 Tacoma... gave me 40,000 miles (the most of any tire I have ever had on my 3 Tacomas)...

Good for looks, mud, rocks, lifetime mileage.

Bad for highway noise, sand, cost.

Very, very loud highway speed hum when driving. They were terrible in sand, renamed them 'grave diggers'.

They never got a flat, were awesome in mud, and the only tire I owned that had people walk up to me and comment about them.

I would not buy them again because the highway noise just overpowered the things I liked about them.

I replaced them with Toyo Open Country ATs and they were great... I also ran Cooper Discoverer ATRs and those were good, too... Just that neither had that 'super' off road look.

If I had my way, my next set of tires for my 2010 will be General Grabbers...

 

i was about to pull the trigger on them and then i read and saw pictures of some MAJOR chunking problems

thinking of going with goodyear duratracs instead

 

My coopers like to chunk too. And I have the ST. If I like them in the winter I'll try the ST+C next, because they are not supposed to chunk much.

 

i had stt's and did a lot of gravel road driving, first time out on a gravel road i noticed chunking and after that it just got worse and worse to where half treads would chunk off. tires only lasted me 12xxx miles so ya i'll never by the coopers ever again. i've had my toyo's for 3 years and almost 30xxx miles now and they are just at about half tread.

not sure what my next tire will be but i've been looking at the nitto mud grapplers, i love the looks of them but have heard they dont last to long so not sure which route i'll go when the time come's. hope this helps you out, there are lots of people who love the tires and lots who dont so it all comes down to what you want to do.

 

ive heard nothing but great things about the toyos (other than being a bit heavy).....too bad they're so damn expensive

 

Ive got the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's and they have 20,xxx miles with half of the tread left, take a look at those.

 

you have the older version right? i hear they last longer than the kevlar ones

ya i love them, i used to have steel rims and with the toyo's they were heavy as hell but i got some new aluminum rims and its not to bad, how long they last makes up for the weight imo.
