I think he meant the stock skid plates that come on the ORs, no little access hatch. They have to be completely removed to do an oil change.

Was that thing supposed to be a skid plate. I thought it was just a bug shield for the oil filter housing. When I removed it I couldn't give that thing away. For what Toyota paid to stamp 2 pieces of sheet metal for the stock "skids" they could have put a regular 1 piece skid on there. But then they couldn't charge a ridiculous price for the TRD skid.

 

Some just call them splash guards, which seems more appropriate. Of course Toyota would call them skid plates...

 

don't forget the shiny chrome seatbelt tongues...

 

used a floor jack when installing my skid plate, made it much easier. it was an easy install

 

Like paper towels they are a one time use kind of product

 

I dunno, I've been known to reuse paper towels. Now toilet paper, that's a different story.

 

Lol, I reused the OEM splash/skid too but had to hammer it back into shape after some shenanigan weekends

 

The oem skids were kind of like wearing a jock strap without a cup.

I have read that up to a 255/80-17 will fit on stock suspension with mixed results on the need to push in the inner fender liners, but still not requiring cmc or anything drastic. This is the route I’m going, but I am about 2” higher than stock.

@Coolfinedonewicked My dealer installed my RCI skid plate for $28.00. For $28.00 I wasn't about to crawl under there in 90 degree weather.

Phew! For a moment there I thought I spent $300 plus dollars on something that DIDN'T make oil changes easier, and that that little door just made it easier to dump the contents of the oil filter on top of the skid plate.

........it's in the pile waiting to be color matched.

 

I feel so ashamed for enabling them!
