I got that wrench and it worked like a charm for torquing to spec. Haven't got the truck running yet though but the wrench was great for the price.

I just cleaned and reused my gaskets and think they'll be fine. I recommend a snipe. Double wrenching, which I am experienced at, seemed dodgy. Used a chunk of abs for a snipe because I didn't have anything more suitable and I thought it would break but it held for loosening both nuts.

I am not familiar with what a snipe is. Pic of this please and what your doing with it. Guessing you’re locking the cam in place with it.

had to look it up myself. Snipe = cheater bar / breaker bar etc. Ill be using a longer 3/8ths breaker bar in conjunction of the mercedes wrench so there will be plenty of leverage.

I though about re-using the gaskets, but im only doing this once, truck is 7 yrs old and 105k miles, may as well put some new valve cover gaskets etc in while its open.

I think I'd use a standard wrench with a snipe/breaker bar to break the cam bolt loose. The Mercedes wrench is very short and meant to be used with a ratchet or in this case a torque wrench to tighten to spec. A normal ratchet won't fit in the space hence the Mercedes extension piece

fig_10c.jpgIf you adjust your torque wrench with the extension like this the torque value needed stays the same. Any other way changes the value and calculations are needed.

    It's DLX son!
Use a standard closed end wrench with a piece of pipe etc that fits over the open end to get the cam bolts off. You can can back up your hold on the 24mm flats with a ratchet strap from the wrench to the upper coil bucket area.

I learned that trying to get cute risks breaking tools and dropping them down the timing cover.

Torque them to some spec if you feel like it, but I think they're just going to get tighter over time with the cam gears themselves spinning clockwise.

Correct, but such a gasket is a crush type technically one use. for 2 bucks onto an order with the rest of the gaskets (intake plenum, throttle body, valve covers) i figured why not.

All gaskets officially ordered. When they get here i dont have any more excuses (unless its to go do something fun).
