Level Kit using 5100 Bilstein Shocks vs 3 inch lift

Hello Everyone. I just bought a 2020 Tacoma 4x4 offroad 4 door. I was considering getting a 3 inch lift or just a level kit using 5100 Bilstein shocks. The turck came with Goodyear Wrangler 16 inch tires. I know if I get the lift that I will need to buy new tires. What I am trying to do is just make the truck look nicer without giving up any ride quality. I am not looking to off road or anything like that. It will be on the highway. When I get a quote on this it seems they keep wanting me to do the 3 inch lift because they say it looks better and it wont look aggressive. Can someone help me out here. Again, I don't want the truck to look aggressive just look classy and awesome. I tried googling pics of the 2 but it is too hard to tell from the pics I have seen. Any recommendations would be great. Level it. Don't go 3in.

There is no need to "look" aggressive. There really is no need for a lift at all. Enjoy your truck.

 

If you wanted an aggressive looking truck, then you should have gone with a ridgeline.

 

5100s set the on clip 4 and 1” block in the rear. Went with 33s and new wheels but it looked good on factory wheels. Sits a lot better than stock and still rides good. Stiffer but a good change.

I was going to lift mine, but decided against it based on the type of off-roading that I do. Ordered a set of Bilstein 5100 with OME 884 springs and that will give me 1" of lift upfront. Truck should sit a little higher in the front and still have a bit of a rake .

 

Why bother with the OME springs? The 5100 is designed for the progressive factory spring and ome springs comparatively don’t last. Just my .02 but could save ya $200 for a 1” level.

 

Look at the bigger picture.. Consider a possiblity of carrying a load and towing a toy. The rear is pretty saggy on oem suspension

 

I plan on 5100's in the front, nothing in the back, someday!!!! I like keeping it simple (& close to stock) ie: reliable....

Yeah, went back and forth on whether or not to keep the factory springs and adjust the settings on the shocks. Like everything some say do it and some say don't do it . If in the future the OME has issues then I'll look at upgrading everything, but hoping that won't be the case.

 

Thank you all. You just saved me tons of money. I am going to go with the just the 5100 up front and call it a day. Then I am going to put on bigger tires. I don't like the 17's. There was nothing I could do when I bought it because of the Inventory left in my area because of the virus. I had to take the ones that came on the truck. They are brand new with only 400 miles on them. If you guys know of the best way of getting the most money for them please let me know. I am going to try the dealership and see if they will give me something for them but I definitely don't want to sell them myself. Don't have the time. Thank you all

 

ok. Sorry everyone. I just got off the phone and inquired about the 5100 up front and he told me on the 4x4 that I will not tell any difference in the appearance of the truck. Your feedback on this would be great

 

They raise is between 0-2”. Not sure how that’s not a difference. It was a substantial change on mine. In fact my wife’s 4Runner has them as well and we are both extremely happy with them.

 

Do you know what the raise is on the Tacoma 4x4 off road? Thank you for telling me that. Can you also tell me the size of tires you went with on yours? The reason I am asking is because the stock tires I have are 16's and are skinny and wont to know if I put the 5100 on what size I should install. I want a great drive. I am installing a new intake and exhaust as well. Thank you Hatfieco05. This is very helpful.

 

It depends on how you do it. You can adjust the settings on the shocks and get up to a 2" lift (using editing coils) or you can get new coils and accomplish the same thing. The difference is in how much you want to spend and whether or not you're installing them or having them installed. Keep in mind that if you just buy the shocks you will need to swap over the coils and you need to have the tools to do that (if doing it yourself).

I wanted to give my truck more of leveled look and didn't want to use spacers so I got the struts and coil assembly as one unit.

 

What tires are those? They look good

 

If you do any towing or hauling you cannot go wrong with an add a leaf for the rear. 1.5" AAL and 2" front is the perfect combo to me!
