    I just leave mine off anyways as I exclusively use soft shackles and I don't want them out exposed to UV. I carry a couple of hard shackles but haven't had a need to use them and leaving them on I'd be concerned about them just rusting in place.

    I had the Smittybilt red shackles previously... never had any issues with rust. However, despite all the rain in the PNW, we don't typically have rust issues. Certainly not like those living in the salt states.

    For the run of the mill (not China) shackles, their working limit is 4 3/4 tons. Most have a Saftey factor of 5:1, I've done dumb shit with rigging and I've never even seen one bend.
