    1. Now I remember doing this.
    2. I don’t recall connecting the blue wire from the antenna adapter.
    3. I have a horrible memory.

Ok, I’ve got a dumb question. I’m trying to update the firmware, but can’t connect it to my iPhone. I don’t have my service setup as a hotspot. Is this the only way to connec the iPhone to the CarAVAssist app?

From what I've read and understood so far, this is the only way to connect in order to initiate an update. I did notice, however, that a USB option is available, though, being such a new unit, I don't think Pioneer made it available on their website yet. I reached out to them last week asking about an Update file for USB, but I haven't heard back from them.

Page 42 of the user guide describes only a single method for the firmware update.

    1. stop wireless carplay
    2. tether you phone to the headunit using your hotspot
    3. download the update on your phoneusing the Pioneer CarAVAssist app
    4. transfer the update to your head unit via the CarAVAssist app
    5. run the firmware update from the head unit, settings, firmware update

I'm curious to see how the 6600 works with Gaia, because the prospect of removing my iPad from the dash makes this mod really appealing. Between my phone mount on the left of the wheel, my Yaesu face plate and iPad on the right side of the dash, it's pretty full. Doing this, I could keep my phone on the wireless charger, put maps on the headunit, and only have my HAM radio faceplate up there.

Anyone try out Gaia offroad with this set up yet?

What type of material is the screen? I used to have a pioneer avic whatever model back in the day and it had plastic screen and had a little bit of give to it. Awesome head unit just the screen made it feel a little cheap.

I’ve used Gaia off-road on another CarPlay and it’s going to be the same I’m sure on this unit.

I can't seem to find a glass screen protector for this unit. Anybody know if they even make one right now?

The unit comes with a poly screen protector already on it. Unless you remove it, you will not need another, it is pretty tough
