I have not found that to be true at all and I have done it a few times. A double cardon one piece shaft with the pinion set properly is pretty fn fool proof for eliminating vibes

What's the "best solution" you're referring to? There are a few in that thread.

I'd assume it's the 2-piece driveshaft with the double cardan joint retrofitted aft of the carrier bearing, but I don't want to assume.

Foolproof is exactly what I was shooting for. Pity it isn't a realistic option for my truck.

@ardrummer292 also one piece of advice, IMO install your lift kit and don’t install the drop spacers or shims. See how it does, measure your driveshaft angles and pinion angle and go from there. Don’t install three things on your truck at once and then come out on the other end of it with a vibration and no clue where to go from there.

The 2 piece solution especially since you are a DCLB.
    This all day long!!!!!

Yep, that's my plan. I need to get my hands on an angle finder so I can figure out what the baseline drivetrain geometry looks like. I'll use that as my basis to perform tweaks, whether it be a CB drop, axle shims, both, or something more drastic like a new driveshaft.

Also... pre-made two piece double cardan driveshaft solution?
    http://www.driveshaftsuperstore.com/CUSTOM_Toyota_drive_shafts.htm

Probably a dumb question, but what happens when I've got the truck loaded down? Since the effective amount of lift will be reduced (because gravity/sag), will my corrective measures end up causing their own vibration problems? I don't expect an issue like this to surface unless I'm packed to the brim with people and stuff, but I'd rather know if this will be a problem in advance.

The angle of the DS isn't as important as the angle of the pinion and CB they need to match no matter the angle of the DS.

Those DS are for the old 80s trucks not ours

Halfway down the page, there are options for Tacomas and Tundras.

Am I mistaken in thinking these could work as an off-the-shelf double cardan solution?

I don't think they are the DCLB version. Also only 350 bucks makes me a little skeptical on the quality of parts and how good it actually is.

Totally agree on the price. I’d rather buy once and cry once.

I’m going to contact Tom Woods tomorrow to see what they can do, if anything. I’m sure they’re aware of the 2 piece double cardan option.

You may get better results calling and talking to Knoxville driveline. But I wouldn't be doing any of that until I know exactly what the issue is if any. I don't think Tom woods makes 2 piece driveshafts they specialize in aftermarket ones mostly jeeps.

I was thinking of Tom Woods because of their reputation for excellent customer service. If that doesn’t work out, I’ll check out some local options.

Just got off the phone with Tom himself. You're correct, they won't do a 1 piece driveshaft for DCLB or a 2 piece driveshaft at all. Looks like I need to do some research and see who can build what I need.

Is there a parts list for a 2 piece double cardan shaft anywhere? I have read that fitting a Spicer 1330 is difficult due to dimensional differences, so most places will install a weaker Spicer 1310 instead. I want to avoid that if possible, since this very expensive modification should be an upgrade, not a downgrade.

I've read through this thread, which unfortunately didn't provide any answers:

on a 4x4 use the stock 2 piece shaft. flip the rear half so the slip joint is at the pinion, have a driveshaft shop slightly shorten the rear and put a double cardan joint in at the center and align the shaft accordingly.

I am on my second tacoma and found the best method which I am using now.

Take the DS to a local shop and have them flip the rear section and add a DC in the middle. Mount without shims at CB and adjust diff so there is a 1 deg difference.
This is the same as post 53 above.

@nd4spdbh, @cjsqueeky, @ovrlndkull, you guys have detailed parts lists for your driveshafts? Ideally, I'd like to buy all the parts myself and hand them off to a driveline shop. I'm not keen on having anyone cut corners and put garbage in my truck, especially since I'm inexperienced and wouldn't realize that I got swindled until it was too late.

there is a list of spicer driveline parts for this somewhere and a few that have done it. I have not, but my vibes are minimal that the couple hundo it would take to get a driveshaft made can be put up with.

I haven't built mine yet there was no need. I'll be going to Knoxville driveline for one of their custom Offroad driveshafts and working with them on that.
