For all you in 1st Gen's, do you find the benefits of runnin' them purdy M/T's worth the extra money / shorter life over A/T's?

I will primarily be doing my off-roading in the desert, or on dry mountain trails (but not just service roads, lol). However, I will be driving on ice and snow this winter.

Hmmmm??? I need another set of rims! lol

This is those if you have to ask kinda threads.

How often you going to be going out, what level of difficulty, etc?

if you cant decide, you can go always with an aggressive AT like Cooper ST or Goodyear Duratrac.

from what i gather MT's are better for mud, AT's for everything else.

I disagree, about the only thing I feel an AT does better is not whine while driving on the road. I have had both AT and MT and with the wheeling I do I will never us an AT again the traction is just not there off road.

I love both a/t and m/t. Bfg makes great tires but I think next time I'm going to invest in a set of General grabber a2 Looks like a great tire.

Like my mudstars. Have BFG Ats for winter. Only thing is that MTs suck in snow.

I find that the MTs work very well on the sand. Compared to the stock dunflops I can just about go anywhere at pismo on my KM2s

M/T's absolutely suck in the rain especially highway driving. They absolutely suck on hard packed snow (you know...after the plow goes by and you have that hard packed snow left on the roads).

The only thing M/T's are good for.....is looks, offroading, & maybe deep snow/sand
Not a good daily driving tire.

You are absolutely right they do suck in the rain. I have driven in the snow with them and they do pretty well. My M/T also do well in the sand.

ok so m/t suck in hard packed snow? i guess they just don't have the bite?

but in the soft stuff they're ok? i would assume they're able to build up and use the snow itself to bite

i've got kuhmo MT's on right now (just bought it a couple months ago) the previously owner put them on, and he's was in a place where they get lots of snow

any slick hard surface (wet roads, hardpacked snow, ice, ect) the MTs aren't as good on. they still work fine, just no sudden accel/brake/turn

    2014 DCSB OR 4x4 Auto
    A/Ts
    Pros:
    -Quiet on highway
    -Smoother ride
-Good traction in packed snow, medium snow and ice
-Better off road than all seasons
    -Better looks than all seasons
    -Good tread life
-Less expensive than a mud terrain

    Cons:
-Not great if there's a ton of snow
    -Not great in mud
    -Not great on rocks

    M/Ts
    Pros:
    -Unmatched traction in mud
    -Great traction on rocks
-Usually have tougher sidewalls than A/Ts
    -Great looks
-Great in deep snow (better on packed snow and ice if siping is added)

    Cons:
    -Much noisier
    -Shorter tread life
-Can have a softer compound that can lead to chunking
-A lot of them dont have siping so they have poor traction in packed snow and ice
    -Expensive
    -Can be hard to balance
    -Heavier
-Some can have a pretty bad ride

    pretty much sums it up

Do you have 4x4? If yes, then just put it in 4 when it's really slick. And, don't drive like a complete moron. You should be fine. I drove all last winter with nearly bald MT's. How you drive is much more important then what tires you have. If your concerned, put a couple 50lb bags of sand in the back of your truck over the rear axle.

    Yup, exactly.

the bfg m/t km2s are the most awesome tire ever(for a daily driver/weekend warrior rig) i love mine they are 50% and have 33k on them and dont make noise like a normal m/t. i wont put any other tires on my taco:)

mud, rocks, snow, sand... work great:)
