    Looks good.

Why not a steel front bumper or hook?
I get that steel front bumpers (came have winch) come with downsides like high cost, worse aerodynamics/mpg, added weight to mess with suspension choice, etc.

but what about an underbody added aftermarket recovery point hook? (I hear the factory ones are only intended for use as tie-downs during new delivery shipment on semi trucks)

I imagine the Mobtown front bar gives a more straight line of sight to the vehicle during recovery, with the higher up hook points to tie a strap around

I did a bit of research and found that the existing tow hook isn't rated. I looked around for alternatives and found that the Mobtown may be my best bet. On top of that, I bought the truck used and it came with a rear-hitch mounted winch. The added bonus (aside from cost savings of a full bumper) of having a front 2" receiver is what sold me on it.

The truck is a daily for me - i'm trying to avoid adding too much additional weight.

stock truck doesn't have a tow hook. It has a tie down point.

Why not just add a tow hook instead?
    $100 or so

There is a tie down point on passenger side and a loop/hook thing on driver side on my truck. Since the mobtown recovery bar came with a hitch I could swap my winch out between front/rear as needed.

A rated tow hook would have been way cheaper and simpler in hindsight, but no hitch winch ability.

I like the option of a hitch up front. Now you can carry a bike or anything else you would do in the back, now you can do up front.

I did the hood first which is a much more simple shape and gave me some practice. Definitely get a friend to help and watch as many YouTubes as you can. When we did the roof we found it easiest to get the center line (fore\aft) secured then move out board from there. Two heat guns, two saw horses to stand on, a buddy, some beer and willingness to fail. What's the worse that could happen?

The hook isn't the weak link, it's the part of the frame that its mounted to.

Not sure what you're trying to say here.

You just linked a part number that Toyota lists as "tie down point" for semi truck shipment that has been widely claimed as too weak for recovery,
that is not an actual hook or shackle mount

don't SOS and BPF aftermarket hooks both mount to the same location

Took taco for a road trip last week. Spent one night camping on GA Traverse, cabin in Smoky Mountains and one night on Lake Lanier. Weather was perfect.

Well the antenna I bought sucks so I'm returning it to Amazon. Station I listen to had a lot of static and I'm not a form over function guy. Gonna buy the internal LED kit instead.

I have the factory tie down spot (circle on bottom) then this factory loop/hook point on top. I'm guessing it's the same "only use if 100% necessary" type of recovery point.

Edit: yep found a thread on it https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-recovery-point.502974/

I removed my rear access cab seats and made a platform, for my dog. Very happy with the outcome. I have access to the storage area under the seats, too. I’ll be painting it all black shortly.

Not fun drilling into a brand new case but I do love storage!

I used Demon Brackets because they kind of cradle the actual subframe which takes pressure of the bolt from "Just Bolt on Kind"
I not saying this is the only place to buy them but this should get you started. They are awesome.
