I feel like if I want to drop over 200 on a helmet then I’d probably want one of those with the removable chin bar.

Right now I am currently driving a unibody SUV with a hitch rack and looking to upgrade to a truck at some point. One of the main draws of a truck for for me is the simplicity of just throwing the bike over the tailgate or in the bed and not having to worry about the rack. Plus the additional rear clearance that you get with the bikes in the bed vs. on a hitch rack. If I'm still using bike and ski racks it kinda defeats the purpose of getting a truck. If I was keeping the racks I'd probably go with a 4runner instead.

It wouldn't be the primary way of hauling the bike. Sometimes I bring my bike to work so that I can go ride immediately after work is done - need to keep it securely inside the vehicle during the day in this scenario. Or if I am bringing it on a road trip and don't have other storage options overnight then I usually stick it inside my vehicle (currently do this in my SUV). If it wouldn't fit in the short bed (under a tonneau) I assume I would need the long bed to do this. Unless it can fit in the back seat of the cab with the seats flipped up?

I would say that a large amount of people in this thread use a rack of some sort. Whether over the bed or hitch. I used a tailgate pad and it was nice but I like the hitch rack more.

My Stache fits in the back seat but I would definitely not want to use that. I now have a bed cap but before that the back seat was the only dry/secure storage Which left me with basically no room for other stuff

Unsafe and/or drunk drivers. Particularly between Cuba & Farmington. I think the number of cars on the road may be less than average given the COVID situation. Closer to Farmington you'll get a lot of oil field traffic as well.

I feel bad that I want to ride solo tomorrow. I love riding with the kids but it’s a bit less challenging than I prefer.

Please get a picture with all the bikes loaded up. I have been thinking about getting the 1up for 3 bikes but I felt like it would stick out way too far. Still about the best option for 3 bikes on the hitch though.

We’ve got a two-bike Kuat Sherpa (not the NV) and a older 4 bike Saris. I’ve been trying to justify the 1up for the last 4 years. I’ll post pics of it loaded later. My wife actually added up the value of the bikes on the jankey Saris and decided it was time for a more secure rack.

    Bone stock baby
Finally finished building up my first mountain bike... here's the (short?) story of my clueless venture into the scene.

I have a buddy who convinced me to look into mountain biking, we rode dirt bikes when we were younger and I currently ride road bikes as well so I was easy to convince. I wasn't prepared to how fucked the supply was due to covid stuff. I spent a good week or two calling local shops and checking stock of online stores to find something in my budget/size... I couldn't find anything. So I went to craigslist and found a frankensteined Specialized Hard Rock (bottom pic). It was a 29er frame with 26" wheels/fork. Picked it up with the plans of converting it to a 29er. I was in way over my head, didn't do enough research. I bought a takeoff fork on pinkbike thinking it would be an easy swap into the frame. I bought hubs/rims/spokes to build 29" wheelset. I then realized the fork was tapered and the frame was 1-1/8" straight. So I decided to actually do some thorough research and ended up picking up a new frame off of pinkbike; the Kona Honzo ST. Modern geometry, modern standards. I can hopefully upgrade this over the next couple years instead of dealing with the old Specialized frame. I ended up selling the fork/wheels from the old bike, still working on selling the frame. I ended up *almost* even on the purchase with the parts I sold.

So... I built the wheels, tru'd them with the zip tie method. I transferred over old Shimano 9 speed groupset along with the old Formula K18 brakes/rotors (bled the brakes too). Handlebars/grips/bottom bracket/cranks all transferred over. Picked up a new stem (the old one was a 90mm; way too long). I've got a Rockshox Revverb 170mm dropper on the way, USPS has been delayed as shit during the pandemic. Fork is a take-off Rockshox Recon RL 130mm. Took her out on the maiden voyage yesterday. SHE RIPS!!!! I broke the old chain but I should have bought a new one in the first place anyway. The brakes aren't that great, I think new pads will fix it up.

Future plans would be new 4 piston brakes front/rear along with a 11 speed drive-train. I gotta say building this bike up was way more fun than buying one brand new. I learned a shit ton and made a lot of mistakes but I'm proud of what I built in my apartment.

Its a solid product, but I made my own. $5 and some spare hardware, vs $50ish was an easy choice.
