herculiner

just want some opinions of herculiner. i need to line my bed and don't want to pay a arm and a leg for linex or rhino. so for all you guys with herculiner let me hear some thoughts!!

 

Used it on the floor of a work space on the Coast Guard ship I was assigned it. It was a diamond plate floor with bolts to keep it attached to the subfloor. Worked great for that...and it was walked on every day.

 

I've used it multiple times on 96 tacoma bed, on rock sliders, jeep floorboards, etc.

It's great stuff. It's not all that thick. It can scratch off if you move heavy & sharp objects across it. However - when it does scratch off, its sooooo easy to do touch ups. If exposed to the weather, it can 'wash off' over the years and need reapplied (if you need details, just ask). It can fade and look 'grey' over time - but nothing like a good can of tire shine to bring back the color (just be careful, make it slippery as shit).

It's a PITA to apply. Use power tools for scuffing and wear 'disposable clothing' (long sleeve shirts and gloves) Also, use disposable cups/trays. Do not use foam cups, it'll eat right through it.

Its good stuff... I used it on my old Jeep's and added some sand to it to give it more grip. Did great and never came off. I think the prep is the most important part of the entire process!! Make sure you clean everything and scuff it up REAL good before you apply the liner! Good luck, I'm going to use it on my bed this spring!

 

i did my bed with it as well, but like janster said, it will wear off. The sides of my bedrails usually have to be touched up once a year, or every other year.

 

you can buy the 3m truck bed coating in the spray can and it will last forever and not come off or fade much i have used it on the bed of a 86 and it has been on there for years and still looks good

 

im curious to know how well duplicolor's bedliner works, it probly works pretty decent im thinkin just like all their other products. ya see commercials for it all the time.

 

I say line-x or nothing. The way i view it is either your truck is nice enough to deserve a good bed liner, or it's a beater that doesn't need one. My truck came with the plastic liner and i like it enough to not want to pay for a spray in liner. The plastic helps not damage anything you put in there and if you really need stuff to not slide around you can just put a sticky rubber mat on top of it. Maybe look around on craigslist for an OE drop in liner.

 

i used the hurculiner and its ok. its kinda fading already after like 5 or 6 months probably, i think im gonna put some more on it soon. but i dont like the texture too much. that sand in it sounds like a nice trick tho

lineX is way nicer. i kinda wished i got it but it was way too much at the time.

 

Drop-in bedliners can cause problems. First: Those liners vibrate and move rubbing againest the paint. It'll rub the paint off the bed. Second: The drop-in bedliners trap water inbetween the bed & liner which can also promote rust.

When was the last time you removed your bedliner to look underneath it?

Another very good reason to use Herculiner, is a cheaper way to protect the paint/bed. Herculiner is cheap, thicker than paint, won't scratch as easily as paint, is easier to touchup than a painted bed. You could install a drop-in bedliner ontop of the Herculiner if you wanted. That'd be a whole lot better than a drop-in exposed directly on the paint.

 

I sprayed the inside of the cab on my truck today with Duplicolor Truck Bed liner. It looks like good solid stuff but its not that thick. The bed I just threw away had line-x in it and was like 3 times thicker than this Duplicolor in a spray can. I think both will fade, this time when I have my bed liner done im not doing over the rails for that reason.

 

this is exactly what i did a few years ago, when i removed the bedliner to herculine it i found some spots where it had been rubbing and would eventually rust,also there was a bunch of sand,rocks and a couple of beer caps under there to.

 

I took out the carpet in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee because it held water. I fixed the leak, but the carpet was crap. I put the Herculiner in the cab/floorboards of the Jeep instead of replacing the carpet. It looks pretty good and was cheap. I haven't had any problems yet with scratching off, and I have had it on for over a year now. Of course, I didn't really need anything too nice because I use the Jeep to haul my dogs around.
