Sometimes I wish I was a dad cause I could use a little slave labor. One down two to go. Even the wifey is gone so going solo. Periodic maintenance requires skid removal.

No kids. Two skids down, one to go. And here’s the problem. 6 bolts hold on the forward most @RelentlessFab Skid. IFS skid I believe it’s called. Got the two front bolts, and two middle bolts. All thread into the frame with no nuts. Threaded pre existing parts of truck. But the after most two bolts are not coming out. They’re turning. And I assume there is no accessible nut that is spinning because I see no place to access a nut, and don’t remember there being any the two times I’ve had them off before. It’s been awhile, though. I’ve been turning and turning these damn bolts and they aren’t coming out. WTF?

I think last set of bolts are bolted to the cross member. If you put your hand on top of the cross member you might be able to feel the bolts. If not, try taking a picture. That will help.

Yes. Mounted to crossmember between the LCA rear bushings. But its tubular and there is no access. Mounts close to where crossmember rotates upward. I don’t think there are nuts. Note, I have beat this skid up pretty good. I wonder if the threaded section of the crossmember is damaged. Kinda like they were helicoil type. I dunno. Grasping at straws. I think I could leave this skid on for now as I only needed to expose the transmission and t-case.

View looking up. Bolts are on either side of access hole for oil pan plug.

Different view. I can see threads of bolt. It’s fucked up.

Clearly I fucked up as it appears wrong sized washers were used. They’ve been chewed up. Almost looks as though I didn’t put in any washers. But the bolts are turning. Just not coming out. Fuck me. Still can do service required leaving skid in place, but now know I have to get it out straight away. Been thinking for some time to go with steel, but put it off. Gas mileage sucks anyway so no need to worry about weight any longer.

Put all bolts back hoping it might create some pressure on two rear bolts and maybe get lucky. No joy. Will address this later after service. Sumbitch.

Damn...that sucks. Removing those bolts will be a bitch! Have you tried gently pulling on the back end of the skid plate and unscrewing them at the same time?

Edit: Looks like it is a good time to do the exhaust re-route as well.

Also, one of the four bolts that hold the two other skids to the t-case crossmember is slightly bent. Will replace all four. Just heard the lunch bell. Cheers.

Yes. In a manner of speaking. Because the skid has been hammered a few times it has a bit of a bow to it. With the front bolts back in it pulls the back some. Had to use the jack to get the front bolts back in.
