I'm sure it's probably too late, but I'll never buy a used vehicle without having a trusted mechanic go over it first. I've been burned a few times by shady dealers. They always seem to be hiding something about the vehicle, but an experienced mechanic with a high end scan tool can see everything.

I looked this truck over and even got under it, and everything looked good and drove well. Looked at the carfax. I am very happy with this truck

I heard back from 1Up and they said that I can DIY fix the rusty nut/washer. There was no offer of a replacement bolt or washer which was disappointing. However, I do like a DIY project as it's more excuse to buy tools that I don't have and will only more than likely use once.

The steps are as follows. Remove the main pivot nut with a 27mm socket and a cheater bar. Use rust remover on the nut and washer. Remove any remaining rust with a wire brush and 100 grit sandpaper. Grease the bolt. Install washer and nut and torque it to gutnteit lbf/ft. Paint with Rustoleum flat black rattle can. I think it looks better than the original.

Maybe a dumb question here - but any way to get the album artwork to actually work on the head unit when bluetoothing from spotify on android?

It shows up if the artist and album are in the gracenote db for the headunit. New stuff and obscure bands aren't generally in it.

You get 2 in a pack. I mounted the other one on the back of our headboard in the bedroom. It's strong enough to hold a fully loaded S&W Governor!

Yeah, when I was stationed out there I bought a Rock Island Armory, 1911 in 2002. I remember paying....doing the background check and the sales clerk said "I'll see ya' in 10 days". I was like WTF.... He explained it's the "Cooling off period".

Hey guys, first post here. Not new to Toyota, as I’ve previously owned an 02 Tacoma and an 06 4Runner, but I’m new to the 3rd gens. Just got a 2017 Sport. Never had a vehicle with so many technological bells and whistles, so I appreciate this thread!

And sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask, but I’ve read this entire thread and sort of have an idea about the audio/Entune in the truck. Quite honestly, I’m so used to using my iPhone and Waze for nav that I’m a little unimpressed with the stock navigation. That being said, if I replace the head unit with an aftermarket one with CarPlay, will I lose the ability to use the custom settings for the vehicle within the unit, or are there certain aftermarket ones that will do that with our trucks? Appreciate any help!

OEM navi is usually terrible, in my opinion. Using android auto or apple carplay to project waze or google maps is a MUCH better experience. As for upgrading the head unit, places like Crutchfield Audio do sell adapters that allow you to use factory steering wheel controls with an aftermarket head unit, but it's likely you will lose some functionality that is built into the factory unit. I would call Crutchfield and explain to them what you're thinking of doing and they can tell you exactly what your options are. They're a great company with excellent support.

From what I've read on the forums, yes, you will lose the ability to customize the truck settings through the head unit. If you're going to swap it out, I suggest that you get all of the settings where you want them and keep the old unit in the event you have to hook it back up to make changes. Personally, the OEM navi doesn't bother me like some folks and I would wager that the majority of folks are okay with it too. Granted, it's a personal choice and preference.

Thanks for the reply! Might just be that I’ll have to get used to it and not worry about the head unit. Definitely need to upgrade the speakers though!

Good call on Crutchfield. I need to see what they offer for speaker upgrades, so I’ll check with them about that as well.

So why do you have that gun there?Seems. like a good way to get shot by a cop that's a little jumpy that day and sees that if you get pulled over. Unless your delivering mail or delivering meals to little old ladies what's the reason for it?
