That seems claustrophobic AF! Maybe take the tool box off one side?

Not a 2nd Gen, but I'm sure something similar could be easily done.

Here's what I did a while back--it cost almost nothing and was easy to build. It has served it's purpose well for 8+ years now. I had intended to build a slide out to fit a full size bed mattress pad across the top but the need hasn't driven me to complete that,,,yet. My large dog loved this half width set-up with his dog bed pushed back in there. It also works well when transporting tall or strangely shaped items.

The loosely tied together milk crates rest on two pieces of angle iron. It works great for a bit of storage, they slide out easy and the uses for them are many....stack them for a little table, toss one in the creek to chill beer in a pinch, etc, etc.

Here's how I mounted my traction boards and shovel. You really just need about 1 inch of spacer between the bed rail t nut and the item you are mounting to avoid interfering with the cap bump

Mind sharing the measurements? I bet we have exactly the same amount of room to work with.

Vacuum your carpeted ceiling before installing the VHB Taped Velcro. It’s amazing how much fiberglass dust is in that carpet.

have you looked into diy wedge style camper? It’d involve cutting your roof, but would be a great shell to start with

Right. Being able to crawl into the back and grab some sleep on a road trip, without losing bed space or having to worry about the bike being exposed to theft is a true game changer

    Two thoughts/options:

1: Having both side boxes just kills your interior space. If your committed to sleeping "in" the cap I'd remove one side box and build in storage below the box down to floor-think a vertical plywood "wall" with cubby holes. Add suitable sized RV type opening windows to the one side door with the bare door and even perhaps the rear too. Add a powered roof vent (MaxxFan or Fantastic Fan) and some lighting. Insulate the roof and walls...maybe foam backed carpet - offers insulation for sound and temps.

2: Just add a Roof Top Tent...and use the cap for secure storage, add some LED lighting.

It’s much tougher getting horizontal panels in/out than vertical, but ability to have full cab height when needed is worth it for me. You have to cut notches in both plywood pieces to slide them in diagonally and clear the wheel wells in order to lift it up and then flatten once inside, if that makes sense.

This was before carpeting but the ends with long rectangle notches go in first and are on the bottom side when sliding in diagonally:

Like what you did here. Do you have any racking with the platform not having a full base underneath it? Or do your little stubs to the walls of the bed do a good job preventing that? Also, looks like you may have some .120 steel strap or something like that running under the front of the drawer side. Was that added to keep the front from splaying open since the platform to the right is removable?
