Wouldn't mind having it recording while parked in case someone bumps into me. Could just wire it into a permanent power source, but then you are draining the car battery. With a built in super capacitor, you could have it record an extra 10 minutes (which would cover a lot quick errand stops and the like) while still having it plugged into the mirror power source for a clean/easy install and without running down the main car battery.

thanks for the rainy day video, i'm hoping to get the same setup as yours.

question for you: how hard is it to pop that garmin mini off the mounting ball socket? i'd like to take the mini out so it's not baking in the sun all day when not driving...

I have not taken it off the mount, can't speak from experience. I don't imagine its that difficult as Garmin sends you a back up ball mount in the box. However, depending on where you place it on the windshield, ie behind the rearview mirror like mine is. It would be a pain to get too and you would constantly be adjusting the rearview. Good luck with the install. If you need anything let me know. And thanks for watching!

    FYI for any blackvue users.
Blackvue cameras are rated to only work up to 256gb, however I have a 512GB SD card in my DR700S-2CH for half a year without issue.

I can store up to 3 weeks of video, which includes timelapse parking mode.

Finally manned up and did the install (was worried about blowing a fuse). No more hanging wires. Thanks for the guidance fellas!

Has there been an issue with 2020s blowing fuses?

On some yes but we feel it was an over current issue with the dash cam installed. Must keep amp draw under 2 amps. Supposedly they redid the circuitry and boosted the heat exchanging ability some to handle the full 2 amps it can provide.

Just a heads up, but the SimpeUSB 12-pin box says to keep it under 1.5A.

My current set up that works is the new version of the SimpleUSB 12-pin adapter (supposed to have updated the control board), Garmin Mini (low amp draw), and micro usb cord. The cord can be about 5 inches or less and seems to work pretty well.

Thanks for the help, one last question. If I have the premium package with the back up camera does that mean I can’t use this?

I have the TRD OR Premium.
Not sure what having a backup camera would do to affect it. What do you mean by it?

Sorry I read somewhere that it wouldn’t work if you had a backup camera. That’s good to know! I shall be ordering the parts today! Thank you very much for your help.
