I once had one of these. Loved it! 1988 Pickup. Mine had a bunch of dealer add-on's like an aero light bar on top, yellow fogs, etc. Had the black one with the grey stripes though. 4cyl 5 speed. Awesome Toyota.

that car would've been DEAD at 130k or so ('normal' in town mileage) in my area of the USA
i have never had a car that made it much past that mileage before turning to a pile of crap (2 late 70s models and one mid 90s)

Even with that low of mileage, it's coming up on 12 years old. It could benefit from this. Our Yaris burns and leaks zero oil.

I love my 3rd gen 4runner but when it comes to offroading I prefer my triple locked fzj80 Landcruiser. Can't beat a solid axle locked yota.

I’ve driven a lot of Landcruisers and have owned the old Pickups people are referencing and have owned and driven newer Toyotas as well and I have to say the 3rd Gen 4Runner is the happy medium of them off. Significantly more light/nimble/fun/easy to drive and maneuver, on road and off road than any LC. They’re giant tanks. They’re no fun to drive (for me) at all. And my little Pickup, while they’re fun and small and nimble, they’re also completely gutless and have no practical space ha.

Don’t hear me wrong on this. If I could have five of each I absolutely would. And I’d drive them all and love them all, each for the job they’re best at. I throughly like every one of the Toyota 4x4s in question here. But I think there’s a lot of “lore” and “reputation” and even some group think to where people say what’s the coolest because of what they’ve been taught to say by those before them ha. Advertising works, apparently. I’d rather see a list where people’s only considerations are practical experiences and actually having to drive the thing daily. I may be wrong, but I’d be willing to bet that if everyone had to drive each of these dream rigs for a year or ten, they’d change their mind real quick when they can’t even get up to speed on the highway or are sick of the big boat feelingless drive.

I’m probably wrong, but I’ve driven most of them, and that’s my take. Most enjoyable 30 day plus, 6-7,000 mile plus camping trips I’ve ever had were in the 99 4Runner. Pickup sucks on the highway but is great for running errands around town and hauling dirt bikes. The LCs are too big to be “fun” to drive, for me. That’s just for me though. Ha

Still going to stick with my ‘86 pickup. Gutless? Yeah I suppose. Go anywhere And do anything? You betcha. Super reliable too. I was a lot younger then and I suppose the ride would beat me to death today. I recall getting out to lock in the hubs was kind of a pain (I swore I could make it in 2 wheel!) but damn, we went everywhere in it back in the day. Drove it through snow up to the bumper and water so deep the floor flooded and it never missed a beat. I miss it to this day.

My 93 is like my 4WD Go-Kart haha I love the thing! My wife always steals it because it's more fun to drive than anything else with 4 wheels we own :D

I have 2 fzj80's, 3 3rd gen 4runners, 2 04 Tacoma TRD 4x4's. I don't have any dual sports but sadly I recently sold all 3 of my cr500's, but I did buy a SxS. I'm using my softail as a enduro tho up at my cabin.
