    I was scared of using 3m tape, but it actually works great! I'd suggest just using the tape, 3M is pretty reputable.

    Is it possible to just use black primer, or is that not a good idea?

    And how do I still get a flat look if I want to add a clearcoat?

    Just painted by tailgate badges black! It looks a little cloudy in some areas, does anyone know if I can buff those spots out and how?

    Primer isn't a bad idea as long as it is plastic bonding.

    I am not sure how you would do that.

    I'm not sure if you will be able to buff it. Make sure the paint cures then you could try a polisher and wax.

    Just stumbled across this thread with no intention of doing it. But now after reading I want to! Those emblems look sweet blacked out


    I was about to start this and realized what kind of tape you need for this. Its called servo tape for R/C cars. It's black, really thin, and really strong. Just random links below but go to any hobby shop that has radio controlled cars or airplanes and ask for servo tape

    3m tape works fine. You can get it at any auto body supply.

    3M is great and I love their products. It does work fine Im not saying it doesn't. But some of the others (including me) were wanting something a little closer to the stock tape. Servo tape from a hobby shop is thinner than 3M and its black. Just trying to offer other suggestions

    Had my tacoma for five months now. Hated the random chrome badges. I put it off for way to long read up on this and did it very similar. All my badges are off and it looks clean as hell! Anyone with doubt; my nine year old full breed boxer could do this mod. It's simple, and depending on the color and model of your truck, can make it look was more bad ass. Thanks for the write up.

    i started today taking mine off. the removal was very simple, but getting the residue off sucks. it got dark, so i will finish tomorrow. many thanks to the person who posted this thread.

    Tip: Use WD-40, no joke, I thought alcohol would work better but in the end WD-40 worked the best
