2018 TRD SPORT Suspension is the worst

Omg This is giving me a much needed chuckle.

 

I'm so far out of the loop these days. I had a set of chopped pikes... 140mm(?) back in the day. I switched over to a... Dmr rigid fork and didn't look back for a long time.

 

Chopped pikes FTW. I traded manitou experts, got some fox 36, and then I got a rad deal on manitou circus pro, and it’s not even the same thing as the experts, which were well regarded for a long time. 34mm stanchions, smooth as buttah. I just never took em off. I’m about to build a rigid setup though. I like to kick it like that.

 

I ran a atom lab trail pimp, a union street Molly Meguire, and a Doberman frame. Can't remember the name. The trail pimp was by far the best on dirt. I liked the Mm for park. The Doberman was over priced junk

 

I also snapped a Cannondale chase frame. Ripped the head tube right out.

 

I have some videos this weekend out in Glamis, the Sport isn't really thattt bad as long as you don't overdrive its limits which are pretty shallow to be honest. It's no YFZ450 or YXZ1000RR to thrash around, but it can handle some bumps at a decent speed. Definitely felt them get softer towards the end of the run, but that's expected for stock equipment. I didn't buy a prerunner or rock crawler or top speed missile, I bought a pretty well rounded truck that can haul my real desert toys lol.

He's right though, 4, 200 lb people, all the big gulps and lunch bits included, on a full tank, and BINGO, overweight.

 

Does your son’s bicycle have Fox shocks? I’ve got Fox shocks (Tacoma TRD Pro) on my OR and the ride is awesome!!

 

I agree not sure what the issue is if totally to blame the shocks, but my 2020 sr5 rides as bad or worse than an ox/lumber wagon. On a smooth asphalt highway its ok, but soon as you get on local city streets the rear suspension compliance is garbage. The truck actually rides much better on rough dirt roads. I really like the rest of this truck, but its ride needs major improvement.

Anyways, these Tacoma's do ride a bit stiffer than other trucks I've driven. Especially when compared to a Ram 1500. But it's a truck so it's expected.

You should really calculate your payload. There's a sticker in your door jam.

Brought back a memory of driving on 299 in Northern California, (twisty, bumpy, prone to rock slides) and saw someone in a third gen nearly lose it while going a bit too fast, then hitting a mid corner dip that violently unsettled his truck. Barely kept it on the road. No doubt pants were shat. Not the kind of place you want to have an accident, pardon the pun.

Worth noting that having to do that particular drive on a regular basis for work (and somewhat that incident) influenced me choosing 6112s and 5160s. Read they had a firm ride and cut down in body roll significantly and can now confirm those points. Feels very controlled even over mid corner bumps.

 

I had 2007 ranger before this and man, my sport tacoma rides like a cadillac, haha. Its all in comparison. I think tacomas always did pretty good on the suspension. My buddy had 1st and 2nd gen, now 19 OR. The only thing i dont like on the 19 OR is the nose dive. Other than that, i think they are all pretty good.

OP should go drive a ranger and report back. He would be pleasantly surprised with the tacoma, unless his shocks are blown of course.

 

We comparing bike forks to truck shocks now? Well hey if someone can figure out how to retrofit some boxxer teams onto my taco lemmmy know

 

OP isnt far off on shock assessment. But list on those shocks is like 43 bucks each or something, so your kids bike has more expensive parts in it too. I think mine made it to about 1200 miles before being replaced. Luckily they are simple to replace and decent shocks are not huge money.
