Went shopping for a new Tacoma yesterday in San Diego. Went to Mossy Toyota since they had some in stock equipped like we want. Talked to the salesman before going down there and confirmed they honor Costco pricing. When I got there, he tells me they have suspended Costco pricing, and not only can I not get a discount off MSRP, but there’s a dealer markup OVER MSRP and no negotiating!

    We’ll be waiting to buy..

Wow! What a turn around! I purchased my truck in early April, just after the COVID 19 restrictions were put in place. At that time dealers were afraid that they were going to be stuck with inventory, and very willing to deal. As a result, I was able to secure an over 18% discount off of MRSP along with a generous trade in on my old truck. I was concerned at the time that I should have maybe waited longer to see if I could score an even better deal, looks like I was fortunate that I didn't wait.

I agree with that stance. Let them sit on the few trucks they do have. Only people who need a vehicle right away because there's got totaled, broke down beyond repair or don't care about the money they work for will pay full msrp or ADM on a vehicle that's not collectable or exotic.

Same for me, beginning of March. Maybe could of snagged the extra 250 on the rebate in April but by then the truck I wanted might of been gone.

They find your hot button and give it to you, then make it up somewhere else. They will give you 5 K over blue book for your trade if they charge you an extra 6 K for the truck.

I did, I told them I won’t be buying one with that ridiculous pricing. I’ll call around to other local dealers,or try out of county. Worse case scenario, I will wait to buy.

Things will get better for us looking to purchase in the coming months I believe. $600 dollar per week stimulus will be ending in July for many and milllions will not be returning to work. Many will be losing their homes and the car industry will suffer from record unemployment. Many people are making more money now than when they actually worked. Once the gravy train ends the suffering really begins. Lots of foreclosures in the next 6-12 months and small businesses closing. Keep in mind this is just what I believe and don’t flame me.

Radclerk you are probably right about some of that. While the economy is starting to come back with things opening up again I don't and never did think it would be like as fast as turning the lights back on. Too many millions lost jobs. Many of them in service industries. The extra $600 may not be back but I think a second stimulus package will offer something but it's too soon to say what. Some of us are still waiting for the first stimulus check and thankfully I will live without it since I'm working.

Or just drive 300 miles. There are definitely still dealers willing to
yup, this thread is great but I think that’s an overlooked aspect that gets taken advantage of in addition to $3000 warranties that should only cost 1500

I think the economy will take some time to settle and then rebound. Combine that with the factory putting new supply on the lots I suspect you will see pricing normalize to the point that there will be dealers looking to negotiate. And then of course at some point, the MY21's will start to roll out as well. You can certainly still buy a Tacoma right now, but to expect a "deal" is simply unrealistic given the current supply/demand cycle which won't last much longer as the factory ramps up. Patience right now is key if you are looking to negotiate.

Some of my local Socal dealers got some 4x4 TRD Offroad in stock but they will not go below sticker price. The sales person told me if I'm not in a rush just wait two months when the stock is replenished and 2021 are going to be available for better pricing.

Truck finally came in last week. Rebate changed from 1750->1500, but couldn't complain with the price. The sales guy said there's like a total of 2 tacomas in the state for sale.

I just switch from the Jeep family to the Tacoma family. We do not have a lot of ORs available in Texas right now, but I found one down the road in Cedar Park(N. Austin) that was shipping from the San Antonio plant. Bought it Thursday night for $4k below MSRP after 3 hours of negotiating and picked it up the next day with 6 miles on it. TRD OR 4x4 in Cement
Thrilled to be back in a Toyota and excited to get to work on this thing.

@Jaunt42 your deal sounds pretty good to me given the current inventory levels, but I only have about 2 months of researching back in the Toyota family. I paid about $1,000 more than you out the door.

I, too, ditched the Jeep for a Tacoma a few weeks ago. I had a '98 Wrangler 4.0L 5-speed a few years ago. Loved it, but it had no room for our dogs. Moved up to a 2011 Grand Cherokee 5.7L. Loved the HEMI and the comfort, hated the gas mileage and the coolant/radiator issues I was having. Just got a 2020 TRD OR DCSB 6MT and I absolutely love it.

    Welcome to the Tacoma family!

I will be leaving the Jeep family too for the taco. I've got a Jeep Liberty CRD Limited. Will be 11 years of ownership this August. Hope to get my new Tacoma when this shortage is over.

Procrastinated too long again and missed another good deal on a 2019. Just keep going back and forth as to whether to save the money and get a 2019 or holdout and wait for a 2020 at a good price later this summer.

At this point it's better to wait until dealers start to get more vehicles in. The power seat on the 2020 is a great upgrade over the 2019's.

18% off MSRP? What Tacoma did you buy and how much did you pay with TTL?
