Was supposed to pick up a bronco tomorrow. Dickwad sold it out from under us after taking a deposit on Thursday. We were headed out of town Friday and the banks were closed by the time we looked at it on Thursday so couldn’t get cash :boom:

This isn’t really truck related but it’s camping.
Two friends and I climbed Mt Dana in Yosemite National Park last weekend, June 19th.
I camped cowboy style at a BLM site outside the park Friday night.
Some assholes came in late and made a ton of noise so I only slept about 2 hours.

We woke up at 4am, drove to the trail head and were moving by 4:30am. We were making good time and stopped to eat once the sun started coming up.
We passed some lakes on the way to the Couloir.

as we got closer we crossed this snow field. It was about 63*F but baking in the sun.

The Couloir is 1200 feet high. It’s at about a 45 degree angle. It’s covered in a few inches of frozen snow and under that was ice. The going was slow.
At one point we set up a belay. The surface was all ice. We couldn’t chop steps too well.
I think we were around 12,000 feet in this picture.

And it was freezing cold in the shade.

after a couple hours we got to the top of the Couloir.

and then it was a leisurely slog to the summit at 13,035 feet.

I didn’t take any pictures at the summit. I was pretty hungry and tired. I stowed my helmet and ice ax. I took off my crampons and mountaineering boots and put on my trail running shoes for the hike back down the main trail.

    I made a short video:

Don’t know if this is same thing you’re seeing but I had similar experience with front bolts for the stock skid plate. I cross threaded one of the bolts and rather than remove and retap, I did the stupid thing and tried to power it in. Only got a half turn further when the bolt started to free turn. Luckily I was able to grind the bolt head off to remove the skid plate and see what happened. Turns out Toyota had spot welded nuts inside the frame member. And by spot weld I mean a small 1/16” weld only on the four corners of the square nut shown in this picture. IMOO, Seems inadequate amount of weld for a skid plate nut.

Haven’t fixed it yet, but thinking easiest option is get a riv-nut tool and drill out the frame to accept a metric riv-nut

    Good luck with yours

That was a thought that occurred to me. Was hoping not. I'll have to look again in a couple days. Maybe I can get a sawzall blade in there. Probably not.

So, took the truck into Livermore Toyota for periodic maintenance. The last of my extended maintenance program services. But, also wanted them to check out an issue that had arisen about three weeks ago. From a stop, and then starting to roll forward, my transmission was making groaning sounds, and grabbing, for a little bit. Not every time, but enough to make you suspect it wasn't good. Sounded a bit like the noise the truck makes when I put on the decent assist mode. It had become more frequent the last week. They would charge me $170 to diagnose the problem. Fine. I just needed to know WTF was going on. They drove it. Then put it on the rack. Decided there is definitely a problem. Turns out I bought the extended warranty so it is covered. The $170 is wiped away. But the truck will be at the Stealership for a few days. :(
