Like I said, it's race car shit. Who wouldn't want a set of welded up coils with rebar spacers and free shipping? Any takers?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you think Tacomas have a bad ride you need to turn in your man card, IT'S A TRUCK. Either OP's shocks are blown or his butt is way too sensitive. I think my sport rides great for what it is.

Of course the Ridgeline drives better, its essentially a car with a truck exterior.
Its like comparing car driving to truck driving obviously the car is going to be more comfortable.

    Sweet ones.
I agree 100% with you OP. I got my 17 with 25k miles and if I put 4 normal sized adults in the truck for lunch runs at work, I was embarrassed hitting a bump on the highway that hit the bump stops, crunching said passengers teeth together ... if you want a single person highway cruiser, the stock sport suspension is probably be perfect. But if you want to put other humans let alone a dirt bike, tent camping gear, dogs, and wife. That sh!t had to go.

I replaced with Dobinsons leafs, springs/shocks and got a little 1.5” lift and now it rides so nice. I laugh at how bad it was and how good it can be if you put the right parts on it. Just different tickles for different pickles I guess.

Don’t listen to the haters OP. Get yourself a better suspension and be in love with a great truck (only mid size with a manual and holds its value like a mo fo).

That's why I bought the OR 4x4. Suspension is perfect. A Tacoma is not a sports car. Plus I think the non-functional hood scoop is fugly.

    Sport
    Pro

Are the 4 suspension groups on the Tacoma.

The Pro suspension is .... wait for it... Barely Adequate.
And when you consider the cost of it.... Just not worth it for what you get. Seriously.

I've compared all the different versions of the Tacoma suspensions on similar routes, along with the Dodge 1500, Raptor, Z71, ZR2.

Don't care what any fanboys say, the Sport, OR and SR suspensions are Crap,
it is the cheapest suspension setup Toyota could come up with for their base truck platform.
Even a set of Bilistein 4600's are better than the above 3 shock sets... and look how cheap they are!

Even upgrading to the cheapest aftermarket shocks out there will make a significant improvement! Over any stock shocks (SR. Sport, OR)
If you pay the same amount as you would for Pro suspension, you'll get a 2-3x better suspension with aftermarket parts.

But then again, when it comes to suspension, the best suggestion besides "do your homework", is "pay more than you want to" as it will be worth it.

I went with a higher end stock travel setup, Bilistein 8112 Front with 8100 Rear and Icon Rxt leaf packs.
The Tacoma now handles better than a Raptor/ZR2/Ram 1500 both on and off road. :bananadance:
It just can't accelerate like any of them :anonymous:

A real shock for a truck that goes on and off road, vs a stock Sport shock....

Take a close look at the pro shocks, their lack of adjustment, their reservoir sizes, etc etc then look at the cost vs aftermarket and what neat things they have for the same or higher budget....

OP you are 100% correct in your opinion,

Sport suspension is great on smooth roads at speed and taking tight corners, sucks for everything else. Digressive, Stiff

OR suspension is good for driving responsibly on fire roads and light trails, sucks for everything else. Progressive, Spongy

SR/SR5/Limited is the midpoint between the two above... good for a farm truck.

Pro, adequate all round so long as you don't push it, but you'll never keep upto the Raptor or ZR2 on a fire road or off road trails. Nor will it be as smooth on the road as those other two.
Ram 1500 is smoother on road than the Tacoma Pro.

For a budget suspension you are going to have to accept a compromise on on vs off road performance.

If you want the best of all worlds your budget will have to grow more than you may want.

Although my sport suspension wasn't bad on my brand new 19, swapping in the Bilstein 6112/5160 with Icon AAL and Dobinsons UCA drastically improved the ride quality and towing capability. For a very reasonable price too.

What is your tire pressure at?

most of the guys who have an issue with their shocks need to also see what their tire pressure is at.

I would guess 95% of Tacomas are driven only on pavement and maybe a fire road. The stock suspension is designed just for that, not for serious off roading regardless of the marketing hype.
