Yes 25+ you can register as an antique. Then no more safety or emissions.

I did that on a 70s motorcycle that i had. It had drum brakes in the front. Took me forever to stop

I also think that 25 years on regular tags you become exempt for emissions, but not safety. The problems with the antique plates is you're mileage limited.

Good to know. I was wondering why I didn't need it this year. Either way, I'm not worried. This is the first vehicle in a long time that I haven't screwed with emissions equipment.

Haha yeah shouldn’t be any issues then. My main concern was whether I’d randomly have issues registering

Good luck doing anything at the DMV, it's appointment only now which you have to reserve online. The reservation window is a month out and another day gets added to that window each morning. Typically there are no available appointments unless there is a cancellation; you have to check multiple times and hope one pops up somewhere in your vicinity (not all DMV locations are available for appointments yet). Took me a few days before I was able to find something open in Arlington a month out (July 21).

Edit: maybe I'll put my time slot for sale on craigslist!

I would recommend trying the drive-by stations first if you're at all worried about failing the visual inspection. It should show up in the system after a day or two; you'll know it worked if it doesn't say you need an emissions test done anymore.

Oh wow. That would explain why they've not been enforcing anything. Hopefully, I won't have to screw with safety next month. My step-daughter's car doesn't even have an inspection sticker and she's on VA plates. Emissions was done in GA while she was at school so that saved us a little headache. By the end of the year we'll all be riding dirty!

I thought that was depending on what county you put as garaged on the registration.

The mileage is 200 or so miles from your address and not a daily driver.

I see SO many VA plated vehicles with long expired blue 2019 state inspection stickers from Mar/Apr/May on my 90mi DD. Same deal, I imagine local cops aren't running them down for revenue...and SAFETY!

Not according to the DMV site. It's all counties. It's 250 miles. Only used to go to show, parades, cruises, etc.

I still daily drove that bike. Theyre not going to know if you are going to a cruise
I was going to get the Real ID. But i guess I could get it later.. I don't really travel unless its driving

I wonder if that's enforced often...I had a buddy that drove a Farm Tagged truck, which is (off memory) 75mi driving distance of Ag land/property, and he would drive frequently from Blacksburg area to RVA and 757 and never once got pulled and asked about the farm plate/proximity.

I keep trying to get my FiL to change over his '97 long bed silverado 1500 to Farm Use plates so he doesn't need to pay tax, get inspections and between my A1 land and his in-law property they live by, that range covers all he uses the truck for!!

I was going to do that, too...but CV has tossed that objective and deadline this Oct for a loop.

The odds of getting pulled over for it are low. Probably very low. I just don't like to take chances if I don't have to. VA state police are the worst at enforcing petty crap. And then there's Fairfax County PD....

You can always get the Real ID whenever. I bypassed it last year.

I can tell you FCPD aren’t doing too many traffic stops lately unless it’s pretty serious...
